Parkinson’s disease is one of the most underrated diseases related to the aging. It is not a life-threatening disease, but the person suffering from the parkinson’s disease cannot lead a normal life due to the issues related to speech, brain functioning and movement. Management of Parkinson’s disease (PD):

Just as aforesaid, Parkinson’s is not a life threatening disease and the person suffering from the problem could lead a very healthy and well-controlled life if the disease is taken care of properly. The symptoms of sleep disturbances, dementia and psychosis should be taken into account regularly and don’t solely focus on the motor symptoms only.  The patient should have the access to:

  1. Specialized PD nurses who could take care of the condition of the patient and provide them the required support.
  2. Physiotherapy classes so that they can improve their flexibility and could increase their ability to work and move independently.
  3. Occupational therapy is also very helpful for the patients with PD, as this could help to maintain the daily activities at work as well as at home. The advice given in the therapy is very encouraging and also it improves the family relationships.
  4. Speech therapy is also helpful to improve the loudness and clarity of the language spoken by the patient.
  5. Exercise to improve the ability of decision taking is also very necessary.

Treatment of PD:

There are a number of medicines that are specially prescribed for the person who is facing symptomatic problems of Parkinson’s disease. As there is no Parkinson disease cure, hence the disease is kept under control with the help of some Parkinson’s disease medicines, such as:

  • Transdermal dopamine agonist- taken as initial treatment drug
  • Levadopa, as it is the most effective drug to control motor complications
  • Amantadine- used as an anticholinergic drug
