Read on to discover why facial cleansing is considered as the significant part of the skincare regime we all should do at least twice a day:

Facial Cleansing- A foundation to a Skincare Regime

According to experts and dermatologists, our skin is continuously exposed to dirt, sweat, bacteria, and pollutants, if not washed off these can irritate the skin, clogged skin pores, cause acne and increase the appearance of ageing skin. Regular facial cleansing can effectively remove dirt and excessive oil from the skin, leaving a clear complexion. However, for people with sensitive skin, face wash can cause skin problems. So, it advisable for such people to always consider alternative options like making a face wash with homemade ingredients according to your skin type which is chemical free. Our face is exposed to dirt, pollution, and UV rays of the sun which means our facial skin needs a lot of attention. If not taken proper care, it starts ageing, we can often see fine lines, wrinkles, whiteheads, dark circles, and dry skin issues, etc. So, it is important to take care of our skin by washing it with a good quality face wash according to your skin. Here are some benefits of face wash for clear skin:

  1. Removes build-up- As highlighted above, our skin is continuously exposed to bacteria and pollutants, regular face washing removes dirt, oil and other unwanted debris. Spending 7 to 8 hours outside means you are continually exposing your face with bacteria, dust, virus, pollutants and dead skin cells. Daily facial cleansing removes such impurities, leaving the skin with a fresh look. Without a facial cleansing routine, you would not be able to uncover the thick layer of dirt and which make it difficult for your other skin care products to penetrate the skin properly.
  2. Hydrates your skin- If you are cleaning your face appropriately regularly, then this means you are keeping your skin’s pH in a balanced state. Well, yes Regula facial cleansing is also an important factor when it comes to maintaining a proper level of skin’s hydration. When your skin is dehydrated, it looks rough and wrinkled. A cleanse or a face wash does their job well by managing the pH levels of the skin, providing sufficient water to hair follicles, which results in a moisturized and younger looking skin.
  3. Deeply exfoliates the skin- Face wash not only cleans dirt and extra oil but also swipe away the dead skin cells that are a major cause of whiteheads, blackheads, and pimples. Daily face washing reveals a fresh layer of skin and your face become smooth, leaving a natural glow.
  4. Improves blood circulation- face washing means massaging your face with a cleanser or a face wash that stimulated the flow of blood to your face and proved a glowing complexion. At times, your skin also feels relaxed and calm. So, kick off a day by massaging your facial skin with your favourite product to clean the impurities and get an instant glowing skin.

How to Get Rid of Summer Acne?

By Stella Green

summer acne

Heat triggers more sebum production and accumulates toxins in the body blocks the skin pores and causes breakouts. Read on to know acne treatments recommended by experts to prevent the summer flare up.

Summer months make the acne worse especially if you have acne prone skin. Or sometimes despite adhering to a strict daily skin care routine that includes religiously removing makeup off before bed, eating healthy and following exercise regimen, acne forms, often unexpectedly in the summer. Dermatologists and other skin experts say when humidity increases, our glands tend to produce more oil which leads to clogging of pores ultimately turning to unwanted breakouts. While an annoying pimple can arise anytime irrespective of the climate, heat, sunscreens, and excess sweating can accelerate things, leaving, redness, spots on the skin. Fortunately, there are ways to prevent breakouts and to live an acne free life even during heat days.

Tips to prevent and treat Summer Acne

Apart from using salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide cleanser try these tips for the prevention and treatment for acne that annoys you especially in summers:

  1. Moisturizing is the key- Moisturizing might sound weird especially when your skin produces too much oil, but trust on this trick. It is important to know that maintaining a healthy skin barrier with a good quality moisturizer is vital for skin in the summer months. Most people with oily skin think that they can skip the moisturizing part of their skincare routine in humid months, but this can cause the condition worse. It is wise to pick a lightweight moisturizer made up of hyaluronic acid, ceramides, and niacinamide.
  2. Exfoliation is a must- Make sure your summer skin care products includes an exfoliating cleanser that helps to eliminate the toxins and impurities that accumulate in your pores and ensures of healing of acne lesions. It also helps to reduce the appearance of enlarged skin pores.  For best results, scrub your face every few days to remove dead skin cells and increases cell turnover, leaving a radiant glow. To address all summer skin issues including acne, dermatologists highly recommend regular exfoliation to open up the clogged pores that cause the skin to become rough and rough skin can’t glow. Glycolic exfoliation is successful at improving the overall appearance of your skin especially in summers.
  3. Don’t wash away your skin’s protective barrier- While cleansing or scrubbing your face, make sure you don’t overdo. Too much cleanup can dehydrate the oily skin and cause it to produce more oil to maintain the pH balance.  Sometimes excessive dryness contributes to building up of skin cells, which will trap oil and clog the pores.

Acne and Sun Exposure

Sunscreen is a must in summer but be careful as many of the sunscreen formulations clog pores. Make sure you pick an oil-free sunblock if you have oily skin go with a gel-based solution instead of cream. Apply a water-resistant sunscreen whenever you are at a beach or whenever you are in a pool or doing outdoor activities. However, a water-resistant sunblock is not meant to be used regularly. In addition, never use a sunscreen on your face that is intended to use on the body. This is because sunscreens made for facial skin are lighter and contains less oil. Here, it is also important to note that acne medications tend not to make the skin more sensitive to the sun. So, while using an acne medication, you need to be extra careful while stepping out in the sun.

If you wear makeup, make sure you apply oil-free products or products that are made for acne prone skin. Just make sure you have enough sun protection. If you have oily, be sure to keep your make up brushes clean and rinse away every time before use ensuring that there are no bacteria that may be sticking out of the bristles that often clog pores.

Proper Hydration and Nutrition to get rid of Summer Acne Flushing out toxins and impurities out of the body is very important for healthy skin. To flush out impurities, it’s important to keep yourself hydrated by drinking enough water. Eat a balanced diet which includes plenty of vegetables and fruits. Try to avoid stress and learn to manage stress if your busy schedule is causing stress to you. If these lifestyle modifications don’t help you get rid of the summer acne, or your condition seems to be getting more worse, fix an appointment to a dermatologist to find out the cause and to create a skincare regimen accordingly. He/she might prescribe topical solutions and oral pills to control your acne. Be sure to adhere to the treatment regimen and follow it religiously. You might have acne due to hormonal disbalance, for which you need hormonal acne treatment.

According to research studies, people with sleep problems such as insomnia have a shorter life expectancy as compared to those who consistently get the right amount of sleep. Sleeping for 7 to 8 hours is considered good for heart health and not getting enough sleep is associated with increased risk of heart attack or stroke.

What is the optimal amount of sleep?

For adults, getting 7 to 8 hours of sleep each night is considered the optimal amount of sleep. Respect your body needs for sleep and aim to sleep for this much hours per night to maintain a healthy heart. Research studies suggest that people who sleep less than six hours per night tend to develop cardiovascular risks including high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, and more significant inflammation as compared to those who sleep for longer.

Recognizing a sleep problem

Do you wake up frequently at nights or feel tired after spending a restless night? Do you feel sleepy or fatigued for the whole day? Consider these as the signs of sleep apnea. Other symptoms include snoring, choking, or stop breathing during sleep. These are the symptoms which many people don’t realize that they do, so it is important to confirm with your partner who shares the bed with you. Severe sleep apnea especially ate the middle or old age can increase the risk of premature death. More common signs of a sleep problem include staying asleep, and difficulty falling asleep. People who are suffering from heart disease often have low energy levels than sleepiness.

Sleep is essential for a healthy heart, and those who don’t sleep enough are high risk for conditions highlighted above regardless of age, or lifestyle habits like smoking, or drinking. Getting quality sleep is important if you don’t want to hurt your heart. It is not entirely understood why lack of sleep is detrimental to heart, but researches believed that sleeping for too little causes disruptions in the biological process like glucose metabolism, the pressure of blood, blood glucose levels and inflammation. The same concept applies in the case of oversleeping.

Patients with sleep apnea (a condition which causes a man to awake frequently throughout the night) often have compromised heart health. In such patients, the certain chemical is activated that interferes with the body ability to achieve extended periods in which blood pressure and heart rate are lowered. As time passes, this leads to high blood pressure during the day and a greater chance of developing heart disease. Many research studies have revealed the relationship between sleep apnea and heart disease. According to these studies, people with sleep apnea are more likely to develop congestive heart failure than men without having this night-time sleep disorder. This shows that poor sleeping can put you at risk of heart disease as well.

By Stella Green

hair loss and diabetes

hair loss

The connection between diabetes and hair loss is well established. Hair fall is a natural process, and it doesn’t cause trouble when the lost hairs keep on replacing by the new ones. However, in diabetes patients, the concept of hair is different. Diabetes is common in a modern society rich in stress, worries, fast food, and sedentary lifestyle. This metabolic disorder is often linked to thinning of hair, dry locks, and even balding. People who have diabetes are more likely to develop issues with the nerve s, heart and other body organs. Diabetes can harm your body’s circulatory system.  This way the less amount of oxygen and essential nutrients reach the entire body including scalp area. Diabetes is considered as one of the major causes of hair loss.

How Diabetes trigger Hair Loss?

Can diabetes trigger hair loss? Yes, by decreasing the micro blood circulation, diabetes can trigger hair loss. Poor circulation to the scalp can cause hair follicles to shrink resulting in the baldness. If diabetes is causing poor circulation, it may prevent normal hair growth. So, diabetes is not the only cause of the falling of existing strands but also prevent the growth of new hairs. The disease brings hormonal imbalance in the human body that that becomes apparent through hair thinning. This also explains why women during pregnancy and menopause experience hair loss.

Medications that are used to treat diabetes may also lead to thinning of hair or complete hair loss, and if this is your case, immediate speak to your health care provider and discuss if about the alternatives that can be used to control your blood sugar levels. Diabetes can harm your immune system too, and it can weaken the body’s defence system, losing its capability to fight against infections and making it more susceptible to illness such as skin rashes and thyroid dysfunctions.

Effect of Diabetes on your hair

Have you noticed any changes in your hairs in terms of colour, texture, progressive loss of hair, fragility, growth, or thickness since you have been diagnosed with diabetes? Such changes can happen when one suffers from this illness. Hair loss is one of the side effects of diabetes.

Are these effects reversible?

Yes, it is possible to reverse the diabetes connection to hair fall. One of the best-suggested ways is to eliminate diet sodas and artificial sweeteners from your diet. On improving dietary habits and achieving appropriate levels of glucose, many people with diabetes report that their hair growth occurs to normal. Moreover, be sure to have constant communication with your health care specialist under whom you are treating your sugar levels. Some people experience regrowth when their sugar levels finally touch the normal mark; therefore, it is important to get your blood sugar check regularly.  Another wise decision you can take to prevent hair fall is to follow a low carb diet and add some organic carb in your diet. It may take up to eight months to see the regrowth so have patience, follow the instructions religiously that are highlighted above. Always talk to your health care provider before making any changes to your diet, and you will see the growth of new hairs.

Can Drinking Alcohol Trigger an Asthma Attack

By Moiz

After having a couple of drinks, do your asthma gets terrible? Do you need to use your inhaler a lot the next day? Does alcohol cause your asthma to worsen? Well, yes, alcohol can worsen your asthma symptoms. Let’s ready this page to know more on this.

Effect of Alcohol on People Living with Asthma

Smoking, dust, pollution, or pets are common asthma triggers, but very few know that alcohol can also trigger asthma symptoms like breathlessness, wheezing, coughing, and tightness in the chest in some people.

For some people, any alcoholic drink triggers an asthma attack while for other certain alcoholic beverages such as wine and beer that contributes to wheezing and coughing due to asthma. Wine is considered as one of the most common triggers for asthma, and there is evidence that it brings symptoms most quickly. Red wine, white wine, beer, and cider are more likely to worsen asthma. In addition, clear spirits like vodka do not trigger an asthma attack because they contain less histamine and fewer sulfites. Why an alcoholic drink makes your asthma worse? Alcoholic beverages contain preservatives that are known to bring asthma symptoms, and these substances are explained below:

  1. Histamines- Histamines contributes to airway inflammation in the lungs. It is the chemical that naturally produces during asthma and allergy responses.
  2. Sulfites- Sulphites are used in a variety of foods and are the common preservative added in beer and wine. Some asthmatics may also develop an allergy to sulfites so the substance can trigger both allergy and asthma symptoms. This is the well-accepted theory that links alcohol with asthma. Wines are found to have high levels of histamines, and if you are sensitive to it, it could bring your asthma symptoms. The good news is that very few people are histamine intolerant.

Alcohol consumption can make you more likely to react to other triggers that could contribute to asthma symptoms. According to the research studies, people who drink more than the recommended amount of alcohol per week become more sensitive towards asthma triggers like pollen, dust, and pollution.

Alcohol cause you to Dehydrate

You might think when beer, wine, and other alcoholic beverages are drinks, and they contain mostly water, how would they dehydrate you? Well, if you drink alcohol, you might have noticed that makes you urinate more than usual. Studies revealed that drinking 200 ml of alcohol makes you pee out 320 ml, so this means if you drink in excess, you can dehydrate your body.  Dehydration is also a side effect of alcohol. Now, why is that so? Here comes the role of the hypothalamus which is responsible for homeostasis. It helps to maintain the state of normalcy inside the human body and take part in regulating water inside the body. Hypothalamus produces two hormones namely vasopressin and anti-diuretic hormone ADH. Anti-diuretic hormone, as the name suggests, it prevents you from urinating. This way your hypothalamus is constantly performing its function by checking the water level in the bloodstream. You are dehydrated if the blood water levels are low. This signals your body to produce more ADH hormone to release into your bloodstream. It then causes the release of ADH hormone and then attaches to ADH receptors in your kidney which allows your kidneys to put water back into the bloodstream. This way your body conserves water and helps to rehydrate you.

When you consume alcohol, it tends to suppress ADH which means your hypothalamus is making less ADH and you and hence you have low levels of ADH. This makes alcohol diuretic which ultimately makes you pee more. Therefore, excessive alcohol consumption can cause dehydration. This dehydration often becomes the reason behind your hangover the next day which in turn brings asthma symptoms.

Ways to Cut the Risk of Asthma from Alcoholic Beverages

With asthma triggers, make sure you are using your preventer asthma medicine every day as prescribed by your health care specialist. This helps your body less likely to react against triggers. Other essential tips include:

  1. If you wish to drink, stick to the drink that you have already tried or which you feel are tolerable. But prefer trying some non-alcoholic alternatives. You can also go with low sulfites wines.  But with asthma, triggers can change, so you can find any alcoholic drink to become a trigger. Therefore, it is better to avoid drinking as much as possible.
  2. Have your reliever drug handy- You might need your reliever any time to help you if you get asthma symptoms. It is advisable for asthma patients always to carry an asthma action plan in their phones so it will be easy even for your friends and loved ones to help you whenever your symptoms get worse.
  3. Try not to skip your preventer medicine- taking your preventer medicine as per your health care specialist’s instruction is the best defence against asthma triggers. It makes your airways less likely to react towards a trigger and prevent an asthma attack.

  2. Alcohol can also change the way your body burns fat which can ruin your weight loss efforts. When you drink alcohol, your body’s entire focus is on breaking down alcohol rather than burning fat. Your body focus on to burn calories produced from alcohol hence takes more time to lose weight.
  3. Alcohol can also lower the levels of testosterone hormone in the body which plays a significant role in losing weight and gaining lean muscles.
  4. Drinking also changes your food choices and increase your appetite.

Conclusion It is important to think about alcohol and weight loss. If you want to get in shape, you might need to quit drinking altogether to achieve your goals. You may introduce alcohol in moderation once you achieve the ideal weight. While drinking continuously, shedding those extra pounds may become a more difficult task. Alcohol is loaded with empty calories that are of no use, and it can change the metabolic functions in your body. If you drink alcohol and wish to shed extra pounds, reintroduce it in moderation, try not to drink more than two drinks a day if you are a man and if you are a woman, make sure you are not consuming more than one drink a day.

7 Reasons Why Your Face Keeps Breaking Out

By Steve Marc

Face Breaking Out

You might have used almost all treatments of acne that promise to clear skin, even avoided favourite foods including chocolate and pizza, and yet, your acne keeps on showing. It is believed that there are other things as well that may contribute to acne that you probably are not aware of. Read on to discover seven reasons that may cause your breakouts.

Acne is the worst, and if you are among those 40 to 50 million people in the USA who have acne, according to the data, then you know how frustrating it is. It is believed that there are other things as well that may contribute to acne that you probably are not aware of. Read on to discover seven reasons that could be causing you your breakouts. So, what cause pimples? Hormonal imbalance and overproduction of oil are the leading causes of acne. Your hair follicles become clogged due to excessive oil production which gives rise to the pimple-causing bacteria, P.acnes. However, genetics plays a crucial role in how your body responds to acne stimulating hormones, along with certain lifestyle pattern you may be following that contributes to worsening of acne.

Fortunately, top dermatologists and skin care experts identify some of those surprising triggers that may cause to have zits. So before blaming your parents for your genes, look below and meet with some real culprits or causes of acne:

  • Your acne spot treatment is making your acne worse- No doubt acne treatments are extremely beneficial, especially those with the proven acne-fighting ingredients such as benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid. But knowing about an acne treatment that best suits you are not enough. It is equally important to know when to use it, how often to apply and what is the duration of the treatment. If you are undergoing treatment of acne, you have heard or might be using a benzoyl acid formulation, and it is commonly found an ingredient in topical treatment for acne. According to dermatologists, the anti-acne formula takes 3 to 4 hours to work and if any other topical preparation comes in contact with it, will likely inhibit the active ingredient from working appropriately. It is advisable to wait for at least an hour before applying a moisturizer or sunscreen to get the best results.
  • Your pillowcase- it might seem unrelated to you but consider the fact that your face rests on a pillowcase for almost eight hours while getting a night sleep. So, if you are not changing your pillowcase often, you might be lying on bacteria’s, dust and dead skin cells. Pillowcase and towel are some things that repeatedly come in contact with your face, and if not washed between uses, you can make them ideal sources of bacterial accumulation.
  • Popping a pimple– Squeezing or picking an already existing can irritate your skin even more and leave a permanent scar. Keeping your hands from making contact with your pimple will help prevent bacteria from spreading to the rest of your skin.
  • Cleansers that are not according to your skin type- In the war against acne, finding the acne cleanser for an acne prone skin that suits your skin means you have already won half the battle. Dermatologists recommend cleansers with acne fighting ingredients like alpha hydroxy acid, which unclog the pores without being irritating. Benzoyl peroxide is another acne fighting ingredient that has been around for a long time. It is loaded with antibacterial properties and works to dry pimples. If you have oily skin, try the one with salicylic acid that can help to exfoliate blocked pores. If you are someone who believes in a natural solution, can go with tea tree, which is well known for its ant-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties.

  • Exfoliation can do more harm than good– If you have a mindset that scrubbing your skin with rough exfoliants, or cleansing brushes will make your skin clean. But let me tell you that your acne is only going to get worse. To get rid of pimples, it is important to repair your skin’s protective barrier to keep the bacteria away and not causing worsening by scrubbing the zits out of it.
  • Your hair products could be the reason- Your shampoos, conditioners, and hair styling products may contain sulfates, silicones and other strong ingredients that may cause breakouts on your face. Such ingredients can seep into the skin pores and logged them, resulting in pimples along your hairline and other areas of your forehead.
  • The sun- Excessive exposure to sun not only cause tanning or increase your risk of skin cancer but also triggers breakouts on especially with acne prone skin. Heat can cause your oil glands to become overactive, which can contribute to pimple formation, says dermatologist. To avoid the situation, it is best to apply sunscreen and wear protective clothing whenever you step out in the sun. To make sure you don’t break out further, use an oil-free, non-comedogenic sunscreen.

6 Ways to Prevent AIDS

By Steve Marc

Prevent AIDS

AIDS can spread through blood transfusion, breast milk, vaginal fluids, and semen. Protect yourself from the deadly disorder by using contraception like condoms every time you involve physically and don’t share needs and syringes with anyone. You can speak to your health care specialist to know about medications that help prevent the transfusion of the infection.

What is AIDS and how does it spread?

Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) is a life-threatening condition caused by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). The deadly virus damages the immune system and interferes with your body’s ability to fight against the organisms that are responsible for causing the disease. AIDS or HIV is a sexually transmitted disease (STD), which means it can spread through sexual contact. The infections can also be spread by contact with infected blood, or from mother to child during pregnancy and breastfeeding. It may take years before HIV weakens the immune system to the extent that you develop AIDS. The infection cannot be cured, but some medications can slow down the progression of the disease. These HIV medications have already been used to reduce the risk of developing AIDS in many people worldwide.

HIV transmission may take place through blood, semen, rectal fluids, pre-seminal fluids, breast milk, vaginal fluids. Person to person spreads of HIV is only possible when any of these fluids come in contact with a mucous membrane or a damaged tissue or are directly injected into the blood of a person through an injection. Mucus membrane is present inside the vagina, rectum, the opening of the penis and the mouth.

InUnited states, the causes of AIDS are anal, or vaginal sex with someone who develops HIV without using a condom or taking drugs to prevent the deadly virus. Sharing needles with infected individuals is also a cause of HIV transmission.

An infected mother can also transmit the infection to her child during pregnancy, childbirth, or breastfeeding. This transmission is often referred to as mother-to-child transmission of HIV.

HIV transfusion can also take place through blood transfusion, however, in recent years the cases of HIV transmission through blood transfusion has been decreased because of enough awareness and the fact that the donated blood, organs and tissues are carefully tested in the USA. One can’t get the infection through casual contacts with an infected person for example by shaking hands, or a mouth kiss. Also, HIV transmission can’t take place through using toilet seats, dishes, or doorknobs used by an infected person. It is important to spread the message that an HIV infected individual can safely share his/her objects with a non-HIV infected person.

How to reduce the risk of getting HIV/AIDS

There is no cure or vaccines developed for HIV/AIDS. But you can protect yourself and others from getting an infection by following these tips:

  1. Use a new condom every time you have intercourse- While having vaginal or anal sex, consider using a new condom every time to protect yourself from HIV transmission. Female condoms are also available for women. If you consider lubricants, be sure to choose one which is water based because oil-based lubricants can weaken your condom and can even break it. During oral sex, use a latex, non-lubricated, cut open condom.
  2. HIV prevention medication- If you are HIV negative, you can take peEP medication to reduce the risk of getting the infection. The medication can be taken by those who are at increased risk of developing the disease, for example, those whose partners are HIV positive. The medicines are supplied in the form of a tablet, and it should be taken before intercourse or exposed to HIV. Visit a sexual health clinic to get the medicine.
  3. Undergo screening for HIV during pregnancy- All pregnant ladies are offered to undergo a blood test to check the presence of HIV as a part of routine check-ups during pregnancy. An infected mother should undergo treatment for AIDS. If left untreated, the virus can be transmitted from a pregnant woman to her baby during pregnancy, delivery, or breastfeeding.
  4. Use a clean needle every time- If you inject drugs, this could expose you to HIV and another life-threatening virus including hepatitis C. Avoid sharing needles, syringes, and other injecting equipment’s like swabs, and spoons. There are needle exchange programs, consider taking help of your health care specialist to know about the programs.
  5. Tell your partner about the deadly infection-It is important to let your sexual partner know about your HIV status. Also, tell him/her about your current and past sexual partners that were HIV positive.
  6. Limit your number of sexual partners- The more sexual partners you have, the more you are at high risk of exposure to HIV. Avoid making sexual contact with those whose HIV is not well controlled to a partner with an STD.
