Falcigo 60 mg injection is indicated for treating severe malaria in adults and pediatric patients. It contains the active ingredient Artesunate, an antimalarial medicine used alone or in combination with other medications to treat malaria (a serious condition that is spread by a parasite that enters the human body by the bite of infected mosquitoes). Treating severe malaria with Falcigo injection should always be followed by a complete treatment course of appropriate oral antimalarial therapy. Artesunate works by producing harmful chemicals within the malarial parasite, thereby killing lit. WHO recommends Artesunate in preference to quinine for treating severe P.Falciparum malaria in adults and children. Intravenous injection is the preferred route of administration, although intramuscular administration is also possible.        

The injection is given by a doctor or a nurse and should not be self-administered. The medicine is safe when used in the dose and duration as advised by the doctor. Follow your doctor’s instructions carefully and let your doctor know if any side effects bother you or do not resolve within a few days. Avoid taking any other medicine or antacids along with this medicine unless advised by the doctor, as they may affect the absorption of the medicine. Please do not receive the medicine for treating any other medical condition without discussing it with your doctor. It is unknown whether consuming alcohol while using Falcigo 60 injection is safe. Please talk to your doctor. Artesunate injection may be unsafe during pregnancy. However, there is limited evidence in the research studies. Before prescribing this injectable drug, your doctor will weigh the benefits and potential risks. Please consult your doctor.

Falcigo injection does not treat the hypnozoite liver stage forms of plasmodium and will, therefore, not prevent malaria relapses.

The intravenous administration of Artesunate should be avoided in patients allergic to Artesunate 60 or any of its components. However, consult your doctor if you are unaware of any allergy or are using the injection for the first time.  

There is limited information on the use of Artesunate 60 injection in patients with liver and kidney disorders. Please consult your doctor.    

Before starting the Artesunate injection, inform your doctor if you have other health conditions like kidney or heart-related problems. This is because certain medical conditions may affect your treatment, and you may even need dose modifications. Also, let your doctor know about all the medicines you are taking because they may affect or be affected by this drug. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Some people using Falcigo may experience dizziness, weakness, headache, and loss of appetite as the side effects of the medicine. You may also notice injection site reactions like redness, pain, or swelling. Please talk to your doctor if these side effects persist for longer. Your doctor may perform a blood test to monitor your condition once a week for four weeks to detect the presence of malarial parasites.
