Description of the drug
Ranitidine is a drug that decreases acid production in the stomach. It is prescribed in conditions such as peptic ulcer disease, gastroesophageal reflux, and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.
Indications and Usage
The drug is used to prevent or treat ulcers in the stomach and intestines. It is used in short-term treatment for active ulcers caused due to Zollinger-Ellison syndrome that causes excess acid production in the stomach. It is used in maintenance therapy for ulcer patients at a reduced dosage. Ranitidine helps is treating reflux conditions, during which there is back-flow of acid from the stomach into the esophagus, causing heartburn. It may be prescribed to patients experiencing erosive esophagitis, a condition in which constant acid reflux results in damage to the esophageal lining.
Dosage and Administration
1. Recommended dose:
For active duodenal ulcers, benign gastric ulcers, gastric reflux, maintenance of erosive esophagitis, and patients with Zollinger-Ellison syndrome: 150 mg of the drug is to be taken twice daily. Alternatively, a single dose of 300 mg of the drug may be taken once a day before bedtime. For maintenance of healing duodenal ulcers and gastric ulcers, a single dose of 150 mg is recommended at bedtime. For erosive esophagitis, a dosage of 150 mg of Ranitidine is prescribed four times daily. The dose for children and elderly people changes according to their weight, age, and condition. Take this medicine as prescribed by your doctor at regular intervals according to your condition and age.
2. Method of Administration:
Take this medicine by mouth with a glass of water. Swallow the tablet as a whole and do not chew. Take the drug 30-60 minutes before meals.
3. Missed dose:
In the case of missed dose as soon as you remember; unless it is time for the next dose. Do not double-up the dose.
4. Overdose:
In case of an accidental overdose, seek immediate medical help.

Contraindications
