Ramipres 5 mg containing Ramipril is an ACE inhibitor used for several indications. These include hypertension and prevention of heart failure progression post-myocardial infarction. It is also effective at reducing myocardial infarction, stroke, and death in patients more than 55 years old with a greater risk of atherosclerosis disease and major heart complications. There may be a few other unlicensed uses of this medicine. Please consult a doctor for more details. Ramipril decreases your production of certain substances in the body that could raise your blood pressure. It makes your blood vessels relax and widen, making it easier for your heart to pump blood around your body.    Â

Always take medicine exactly as your doctor has told you. Ask your doctor if you are not sure. Ramipres come in the form of a tablet for oral administration. Swallow the pill with a glassful of water. Do not break or chew the tablet. If you take more Ramipril pills than you should, please tell your doctor or visit your nearest health care centre.
Do not take Ramipres 5 mg if you are allergic to Ramipril, another ACE inhibitor, or other medicine ingredients. Signs of an allergic reaction include a rash, breathing problems, difficulty swallowing, and swelling of the face, lips, throat, or tongue. Â
Also, avoid the medicine in the following conditions if you:

    —  Have taken or currently taking valsartan, a medicine used to treat a type of chronic heart failure in adults, the risk of rapid swelling under the skin in an area such as the throat is increased.
    —  Have diabetes, kidney problems, or are during the last six months of pregnancy.
    —  Your blood pressure is unstable
    —  If you take certain medications, the risk of angioedema may increase. These include:
- Medicines to prevent organ transplant rejection and for cancer (sirolimus, everolimus, temsirolimus.
- Racecadotril (a medicine for the treatment of diarrhea)
- Vildagliptin (Anti-diabetic agent).

You should not take Ramipres if any of the above applies to you. If you have any doubt, please speak to your doctor. Â
Stop taking Ramipres and see a doctor immediately if you notice any of the following side effects:
Swelling of the lips, face, throat, or tongue makes it difficult for you to swallow or breathe and causes rashes and itching. These could be signs of a severe allergic reaction to Ramipril. Â
Severe skin reactions include ulcers in your mouth, reddening rash, blistering or skin detachment. Â
Common side effects include:
- Headache or feeling tired
- Hypotension, fainting
- Dry cough, inflammation of your sinuses, bronchitis,
- Chest pain
- Cramps or pain in the muscles, Stomach pain, Diarrhoea, Skin rash
- Blood tests show more potassium in your blood.
