US Brand Name Miraprex
Strength 0.25mg
Generic Name Pramipexole

Pramipex 0.25 mg contains Pramipexole, a non-ergot dopamine agonist prescribed for the treatment of Parkinson’s disease. It is also effective in treating restless legs syndrome. The medicine should not be given to children.

Take Pramipex exactly as your doctor tells you to. Your doctor will tell you how many Pramipex tablets to take and how long you need to continue treatment. Your doctor may make changes to your dosing regimen unless you receive the right amount of medicine to control your symptoms. Follow your doctor’s instructions; do not take more or less than your doctor tells you. You can take the tablet before or after consuming food. It is best to take this anti-parkinsonian drug with food, as taking this medicine with food may lower your chances of getting nausea. If you miss a dose, do not double up your dose to compensate for the missed one. Be sure to inform your doctor right away if you stop taking the drug for any reason. Do not begin treatment again before speaking with your doctor.

Do not take Pramipex 0.25 mg if you are allergic to Pramipexole or any other inactive ingredients of the medicine. Tell your doctor before taking Pramipex about all your medical conditions, including low blood pressure, trouble controlling your muscles, have kidney problems, or feeling sleepy during the day from a sleep problem other than Restless legs syndrome. Also, let your doctor know if you are pregnant or are breastfeeding.  You should not drink alcohol during the treatment. Excessive alcohol intake can increase the chance that Pramipexole will make you feel sleepy or fall asleep when you are engaged in an activity that requires you to be alert. Tell your doctor about all the medicines you take, including prescription and over the counter drugs (vitamins and herbal supplements). Especially tell your doctor if you take any other medicinal product that makes you sleepy. Pramipexole and other medicines may interact with each other causing side effects. Your anti-parkinsonian drug can affect how other medicines work, and other medicines may affect the mechanism of action of Pramipex.

Some of the common side effects of the medicine include:

Nausea, constipation, vomiting, drowsiness, dizziness, headache, unusual sweating, and dry mouth. Make sure to take medical help right away if any of these conditions persist longer.
Pramipexole may lead to serious side effects. Some side effects include mood, mental or behaviour changes (especially hallucinations), difficulty moving or walking, decreased libido, muscle cramps, or unusual urges (increased gambling or sexual urges). You may also develop a sudden drop in blood pressure, which can lead to nausea, dizziness, and fainting, especially in the initial days of starting this medication or when your dose is increased. Pramipexole may induce sleep and can cause you to feel drowsy while engaging in routine activities during the daytime such as talking, walking, eating or driving. You may fall asleep suddenly, even if you are alert.
