Valzaar 80mg contains valsartan, a class of drugs known as angiotensin II receptor antagonists, which control high blood pressure. Valsartan blocks the effect of angiotensin II substances in the body, which is responsible for causing tightening of vessels, thus causing blood pressure to increase. The medicine blocks angiotensin II, which cause the blood vessels to relax and blood pressure to be lowered. Valzaar treats blood pressure in children and adolescents 6 to 18 years of age. Blood pressure higher than the normal range increases the workload of the heart. If not treated on time, high blood pressure can damage the blood vessels of the brain, heart, and kidneys and may result in a heart attack or kidney failure. It is also effective in treating heart failure in adults. In such patients, the medicine reduces the need for hospitalization that happens from heart failure. The medicine improves the chance of living longer after myocardial infarction in adults.

Take Valzaar exactly as prescribed by your doctor. For treatment of high blood pressure, take the tablet each day at the same time. For adult patients with heart failure or who have had a heart attack, take medicine twice daily. A doctor may initiate the therapy with the lowest dose and increase the dose during the treatment as per patient’s condition. A patient may take the tablet before or after consuming food. Taking too much can cause side effects, and call your doctor straight away if you take too many tablets. The medicine should not be given to children under 6 years of age or children with certain kidney problems.  If you miss a dose, do not take a double dose to make up for the missed one. Stopping the treatment may cause your condition to get worse.

Tell your doctor about all the medical conditions, including allergies, heart conditions, kidney problems, and liver diseases. Your doctor should also be aware of your pregnancy status or if you are a breastfeeding mother. Let your doctor know of all the medications you take, including other medicines for high blood pressure, water pills, a salt substitute, potassium supplements, and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs like naproxen and ibuprofen. You should keep a list of medicines and share it with your doctor.   

The most common side effects of Valzaar 80 mg used to treat high blood pressure include dizziness, flu symptoms, headache, tiredness, diarrhea, high blood potassium, low blood pressure, joint and back pain, and abdominal pain. These side effects are generally mild and resolve within a few days of the treatment. You must inform your doctor straight away if you get any side effect that bothers you or persist for a longer duration. The frequency of side effects may vary depending on the patient’s condition. Side effects such as dizziness and decreased kidney function were seen less frequently in patients treated with high blood pressure than patients for heart failure or after myocardial infarction.
