Enapril 2.5 mg is a prescription medicine that reduces high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults. When blood pressure is high, the workload of the heart and arteries increases over time; these organs may not function as they should. This ultimately causes damage to the vital organs such as the heart, brain, and kidney and results in stroke, heart attack, heart failure, kidney disease or blood vessel disease. The medicine is also effective in treating patients with heart failure. This is when your heart cannot pump adequate blood to function well. The medicine's active ingredient is Enalapril, which belongs to a class of drugs known as angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors. These medications lower blood pressure by specifically blocking a substance called the angiotensin II enzyme. Angiotensin II normally cause tightening of blood vessels. The medicine allows the blood vessels to relax and help lower high blood pressure. Enapril tablet does not cure high blood pressure, but it is used to control it. Therefore, it is important to take the medication regularly to maintain the appropriate blood pressure level. It is a long-term treatment; you may need to take it for life.
Take Enapril 2.5 mg exactly as your doctor ordered. The absorption of the medicine is not affected by food; therefore, you may take it with or without a meal. Crushing or breaking the tablet is not advised. Your doctor may adjust the dose according to your blood pressure response. For patients with congestive heart failure, the initial dose is 2.5 mg which needs to be taken once daily. Your doctor will closely monitor you to determine the initial effect on your blood pressure.
Do not take it if you are allergic to Enalapril or other medication components. Avoid taking it if you have a history of swelling of the face, tongue, lips, throat, breathing difficulties, or trouble swallowing. Enapril tablet is contraindicated in patients already taking blood pressure-lowering medicine that contains aliskiren and who have diabetes or kidney disease.
Along with its intended action, any pharmaceutical agent, including Enapril 2.5 mg, may cause side effects. Most people who take this heart medication do not experience any problems when taking the medication. Most people take this medication, but if you notice side effects persist or worsen, seek immediate medical help. The side effects of Enalapril include a dry cough and sore throat. The initial dose may cause a significant reduction in blood pressure following the treatment. Some may notice faintness or dizziness, and this makes you lie down. Other common side effects of the medication are headache, diarrhea, rash, itching, chest pain, shortness of breath, lasting cough, and vomiting.
