Trenaxa 500 mg is indicated for the treatment and prevention of excessive bleeding in patients:

• With blood clotting disorders
• With conditions such as nose bleeds, heavy periods of colon ulcer, bleeding into the urine or intestines, and inflammation of the bowel and colon  

The medicine contains the active ingredient Tranexamic acid, which belongs to a group of medicines known as antifibrinolytic agents. These agents work by slowing the processes that cause bleeding. Trenaxa tablets may also treat hereditary angioneurotic oedema (periodic throat swelling). Your doctor may have prescribed this medication for another purpose.

Trenexa should be taken as per the directions given by your doctor. The medicine is meant for oral consumption and can be taken before or after having a meal. Swallow the tablet with water. Do not crush or chew the pill, as your body cannot absorb it properly. The tablet should only be taken after the start of a menstrual period.

Trenaxa 500 mg may not be suitable for everyone. Do not take this medicine if any of the following applies to you:

 — Are you being treated for a stroke

 — Have a history of blood clots in your legs, arteries, lungs, or elsewhere.

 — Have severe kidney disease

 — Have suffered bleeding in the brain

 — Have a history of convulsions

 — Have a problem with colour vision

Do not take Trenaxa tablets if you are allergic to any medicine containing tranexamic acid or other ingredients in the medication. Also, if you are unsure whether to start taking Tranexamic acid tablets, talk to your doctor.  

Let your doctor know if you are pregnant or intend to become pregnant. The safety of using this medicine in a pregnant woman who may become pregnant has not been established. Tranexamic acid tablets are not recommended for pregnant women unless your doctor finds the potential benefits of this medicine in your case. 

Inform your doctor if you have or have ever had any medical conditions, especially severe bruising, renal insufficiency, irregular periods, and colour blindness. Also, let him know if someone in your family has ever suffered from blood clots or a stroke. Tranexamic acid may cause excessive drowsiness with alcohol; therefore, it is recommended to avoid alcohol consumption during the treatment.    

Gastrointestinal discomfort is common in patients with oral administration of Trenaxa. Problems with the gastrointestinal tract include vomiting and diarrhoea. This discomfort usually resolves when the dose is removed. Rarely, an allergic reaction may occur. Also, let your doctor know if you have undergone any cardiac surgery or are suffering from a kidney disorder. If you experience a serious side effect, seek medical help.
