The combination medicine Veltam Plus is used to treat the signs and symptoms of Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). BPH is a noncancerous enlargement of the prostate gland in men. The word hyperplasia means enlargement that is not cancerous. It is also called Benign Enlargement of Prostate (BEP). The medicine contains the active ingredients Tamsulosin and Dutasteride; both used to treat difficult urination, a common symptom of an enlarged prostate in adult men.

The combination belongs to a class of drugs known as 5-alpha blockers. As the prostate size increases, it can lead to urinary problems, such as trouble passing urine and an urge to go to the toilet frequently. It can also cause the flow of urine to be slower. If the condition is left untreated, there is a risk of acute urinary retention. Therefore, the condition requires immediate medical attention. Veltam plus helps to shrink the size of the prostate and relieve the symptoms.

Take Veltam plus the same way your doctor has told you. For best results, take it regularly. Check with your doctor if you are not sure. The recommended dose is one tablet once a day, half an hour after a meal. Swallow the tablet with a glass full of water. Do not chew or break the pill. If you take more of this combination medicine than you should, speak to your doctor for advice. If you forget t take your regular dose of Tamsulosin and Dutasteride, do not take the double dose to make up for the missed one. Just take the next dose at the usual time. Do not discontinue treatment without the doctor’s advice. If you have any questions related to the use of this combination drug, ask your doctor.

Veltam Plus is not suitable for Women. Therefore, it should not be taken by this population. Before starting the treatment with this medicine, an appropriate evaluation should be performed to identify other conditions such as stricture disease, infection, hypotonic bladder, prostate cancer, or other neurogenic disorders that might mimic BPH. Caution should be used in the administration of this combination medicine in those patients with impaired liver function. The signs and symptoms of orthostasis (vertigo, dizziness, and postural hypotension) have been reported more frequently in patients taking Veltam plus. Like other alpha-adrenergic drugs, there is a potential risk of syncope (temporary loss of consciousness caused by a fall in blood pressure). Patients starting treatment with this combination drug should avoid situations where injury could result in syncope. The intraoperative floppy syndrome has also been reported during cataract surgery in some patients treated with prostate medication. Priapism (persistent and painful erection of the penis) may also occur. Because this health problem can lead to permanent impotence if not properly treated, patients must be advised of the seriousness of the condition. Patients are advised not to donate blood until six months after the last dose.    

Patients receiving Veltam plus tab 0.4 mg 0.5mg may encounter unwanted side effects such as urticaria, diarrhea, nausea, impotence, testicular pain, rash, gynecomastia, diarrhea, decreased libido. Reduction in the volume of ejaculate.
