Olmezest-H - 20/12.5mg Tablet for High Blood Pressure — Trusted Generic Benicar HCT

Olmezest-H is a prescription medicine for patients with hypertension (high blood pressure). It is a combination of Olmesartan and Hydrochlorothiazide.

  — Olmesartan - It is an angiotensin receptor blocker. You can recognize this medicine as an antihypertensive agent as it ends in “SARTAN”. It lowers elevated blood pressure.

  — Hydrochlorothiazide - It is a diuretic or water pill that increases urination. This helps lower blood pressure.

Olmezest does not cure high blood pressure. It helps to control blood pressure. Therefore, it is important to take this combination of medicine regularly, even if you feel fine.

Take Olmezest H exactly as prescribed by your doctor. It is best to take the dose at the same time each day. The medicine comes as tablets for oral administration. It can be taken with or without food. The combination of Olmesartan and hydrochlorothiazide cause an upset stomach; take it with food or milk to avoid stomach disturbances. The usual recommended dose is one tablet daily. If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact your doctor, even if there are no symptoms. Do not miss the dose; if you do and forget to take your next dose during the day, carry on with the next scheduled dose.

Do not Olmezest-H if any of the following applies to you are:

  — Allergic to olmesartan or hydrochlorothiazide or any of the ingredients in the medicine.

  — Allergic to sulfa drugs

  — Have a problem urinating

  — Have experienced an allergic reaction with swelling of lips/throat, tongue, face, lips, sudden breathing, or swallowing issues

  — Pregnant or think you have become pregnant. Taking this combination of medicine during pregnancy can cause injury and even death to the fetus

  — While breastfeeding, Olmezest H may pass into breast milk

  — Taking an antihypertensive agent that contains aliskiren, and you have diabetes mellitus or kidney disorder

Also, let your doctor know if you are on a low salt diet or are less than 18 years old.

Certain medications can interact with Olmesartan and hydrochlorothiazide. These include sleeping pills, strong pain medications, antifungal agents, antidiabetics, cholesterol-lowering drugs, antidepressants, anticancer medications, heart medicines, antiepileptic drugs, gout medications, NSAIDs, anaesthetics, and other blood pressure-lowering medicines.

Side effects may include:

  — Dizziness, pins, and needles in your finger

  — Upper respiratory tract infections, cough

  — Nausea, vomiting, Constipation, diarrhoea

  — Fatigue, drowsiness, insomnia

  — Reduced libido

  — Bleeding under the skin, red patches, rash on the skin

If any  of these side effects severely affect you, tell your doctor immediately.

What is Olmezest-H - 20/12.5mg Tablet used for?

Olmezest-H is used to treat high blood pressure. It contains two active ingredients: olmesartan (which relaxes blood vessels) and hydrochlorothiazide (a water tablet that reduces fluid in your body). Together, they lower your blood pressure and reduce the strain on your heart. Your doctor may prescribe this combination tablet when a single medicine is not enough to control your blood pressure effectively. Taking it regularly helps prevent serious complications like heart attacks and strokes.

Who is Olmezest-H - 20/12.5mg Tablet meant for, and is it right for me?

Olmezest-H is prescribed to treat high blood pressure [elevated force of blood against artery walls] in adults. Your doctor may recommend it if your blood pressure remains too high with other medicines alone, or as a first treatment in certain cases. It combines two active ingredients to work together more effectively. However, only your doctor can decide if Olmezest-H is right for you, based on your medical history, current medicines, kidney function, and any allergies. Do not take this tablet if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding. Talk to your doctor about whether this medicine suits your individual health needs.

Should I take Olmezest-H - 20/12.5mg Tablet with food, and does the time of day matter?

You can take Olmezest-H with or without food — it doesn't affect how well the medicine works. However, taking it at the same time each day is important for keeping your blood pressure controlled consistently. Choose a time that fits your daily routine, whether morning or evening, and stick with it. This helps your body maintain steady levels of olmesartan (a blood pressure-lowering medicine) and hydrochlorothiazide (a water tablet) in your system. If you forget a dose, take it as soon as you remember, unless it's almost time for your next dose.

How much Olmezest-H - 20/12.5mg Tablet should I take, and how often?

Your doctor will prescribe your specific dose of Olmezest-H based on your blood pressure and individual health needs. The standard dosage is one tablet once daily, taken by mouth with or without food. Do not adjust your dose without consulting your doctor. Take it at the same time each day to help you remember. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember, unless it's almost time for your next dose—then skip the missed dose. Never double-dose to catch up.

Is Olmezest-H - 20/12.5mg Tablet suitable for long-term use, or is it a short-term treatment?

Olmezest-H is suitable for long-term use. It's a maintenance medication designed to control high blood pressure over extended periods. You'll take it regularly as prescribed by your doctor, often for months or years. Because high blood pressure is a chronic condition, long-term treatment helps prevent serious complications like heart disease and stroke. Your doctor will monitor your progress with regular check-ups and blood pressure readings to ensure the medication remains effective and safe for you.

How quickly will I notice Olmezest-H - 20/12.5mg Tablet working?

Olmezest-H typically takes 2–4 weeks to lower your blood pressure noticeably, though some people see results within 1–2 weeks. The full effect may take 4–8 weeks. Don't stop taking it if you don't feel immediate changes—high blood pressure often has no symptoms, so you won't "feel" it working. Keep taking your tablet as prescribed and have your blood pressure checked regularly by your doctor to confirm it's working properly for you.

Yes, Olmezest-H can cause allergic reactions in some people. Watch for signs including rash, itching, swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat, difficulty breathing, or dizziness. These symptoms may appear within minutes to hours of taking the tablet. If you experience any of these signs, stop taking the medicine and seek immediate medical help. Do not delay seeking medical attention, as these could indicate a serious reaction requiring urgent care.

Is it safe to drink alcohol while taking Olmezest-H - 20/12.5mg Tablet?

Your doctor prescribes this particular strength when your blood pressure needs control with both medicines together. However, the right strength for you depends on your individual blood pressure readings, kidney function, and how you respond to treatment, so always follow your doctor's specific recommendation.

What should I discuss with my doctor before starting Olmezest-H - 20/12.5mg Tablet?

Before you start taking Olmezest-H, tell your doctor if you have kidney disease, liver problems, diabetes, or heart disease. Mention any allergies to olmesartan or similar medicines. Let your doctor know about all other medicines you're taking, including supplements. If you're pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding, discuss this first. Tell your doctor if you feel dizzy or have low blood pressure. Also mention if you've had a recent heart attack or stroke. Your doctor needs this information to check if Olmezest-H is safe for you.

Instead, take unused or out-of-date tablets to a pharmacy or designated medicine disposal facility in your area—most pharmacies accept old medicines for safe destruction.
