US Brand Name Advair Diskus
Strength 250 mcg / 50 mcg
Generic Name Fluticasone and Salmeterol Inhalation Powder, pre-dispensed BP
Manufacturer GSK, France

Seretide Diskus combines two active ingredients, namely:

     —    Fluticasone propionate - is an inhaled corticosteroid that helps decrease lung inflammation. This inflammation can contribute to breathing issues.

     —    Salmeterol - a long-acting beta-adrenergic agonist such as salmeterol that helps the muscles around the airways in your lungs stay relaxed to prevent symptoms such as cough, wheezing, chest tightness, and shortness of breath. These symptoms develop when the muscles around the airways constrict. This causes difficulty in breathing.

Seretide Diskus is not for relieving sudden breathing issues and will not replace a rescue inhaler. It is still unknown whether the medicine is safe and effective in children younger than four.

Asthma

This combination medicine is a prescription treatment for asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease patients. It controls asthma symptoms and prevents wheezing in adults and children aged four years and older. The medicine is not for adults and children with asthma whose symptoms with a controller medicine, such as a low to medium dose of an inhaled corticosteroid medicine. Seretide Diskus is for adults and children with asthma who need fluticasone and salmeterol.

COPD

Seretide Diskus 500/50 is equally effective in treating COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), a lung disorder that includes emphysema, chronic bronchitis, or both.

Please do not use this medication unless your doctor has instructed you to use the inhaler correctly. Children should use this medication with an adult’s help as instructed by the child’s health care specialist. Seretide Diskus 500/50 is used for the long term as one inhalation twice daily to improve symptoms of COPD for better breathing and to reduce the worsening of COPD symptoms for several days. Do not stop the treatment for any reason without consulting your doctor. Always carry a rescue inhaler with you to treat sudden symptoms. If you do not have a rescue inhaler, contact your doctor to have one prescribed for you. Wash your mouth with water after each dose.

Do not use Seretide Diskus as a rescue inhaler to relieve sudden breathing problems. Also, avoid taking it if you are allergic to fluticasone, salmeterol, or other medicine ingredients. If you have a severe allergy to milk proteins. Ask your doctor if you are not sure.

Before you use this asthma medicine, let your doctor know if you develop any medical conditions, including hypertension, heart problems, seizures, liver bones, diabetes, thyroid problems, or immune system.
