Losartan 25 mg contains Losartan, an angiotensin II receptor blocker used for the treatment of hypertension. Its lower blood pressure in adults and children greater than six years of age. Lowering blood pressure causes a significant reduction in cardiovascular events such as heart attacks and strokes. Losartan is effective in reducing the risk of stroke in patients with hypertension and left ventricular hypertrophy. Your doctor may also prescribe this medication to treat diabetic neuropathy with elevated serum creatine and proteinuria in patients with type 2 diabetes and background of hypertension. The drug should not be given to children less than six years of age in patients with certain kidney diseases. You should not take it if you are hypersensitive to any of the ingredients in Losar tablets. The medicine should not be used if you have diabetes and take a medication called aliskiren to reduce blood pressure. Â
The usual dose for the treatment of hypertension is 50 mg once daily. The suggested dose for hypertensive patients with left ventricular hypertrophy, the usual starting dose is 50 mg once daily. You must take medicine exactly as your doctor has prescribed. Your doctor may adjust the dose as per requirement. You may take it before or after or consuming food. Let your doctor know of all the medicine that you have been using. These may include all your prescription and non-prescription medicine, vitamins, and herbal supplements. Especially, inform your doctor about potassium supplements, water pills, salt substitutes containing potassium, medicine to treat arthritis, and other medicine to reduce blood pressure.
Certain medications can interact with Losar 5 mg. Agents increasing serum potassium may increase the risk of hyperkalemia. Concomitant use of lithium may increase the risk of lithium toxicity. The use of non-inflammatory steroidal drugs or NSAIDs may increase the risk of renal insufficiency and reduced antihypertensive effects. Dual inhibition of the renin-angiotensin system may increase the risk of renal impairment, hyperkalemia, and hypotension. To treat hypertension in most patients, the usual starting and maintaining dose is 50 mg once daily. The maximum hypertensive effect is obtained within 3 to 4 weeks of initiating the treatment. Your doctor may adjust the dose by increasing the dose to 100 mg once daily. No dose adjustment is required for elderly patients with renal insufficiency. Usually, a lower dose is given to patients with a history of kidney disorder. For the risk of reduction of cardiovascular deaths in hypertensive patients, the usual dose is 50 mg once daily. The dose may be taken before or after consuming food.
Most side effects do not require any medical attention and resolve independently once your body adjusts to the medicine. Consult your doctor straight away the side effects persist for a longer duration. Common side effects of losartan 15 mg include increased blood urea, low blood glucose level, decreased blood pressure, dizziness, and increased potassium levels in the blood.
