Glycomet 850 mg contains the active ingredient metformin, a medicine used to treat diabetes. It is categorized under the drug class biguanides, which enhance insulin production in the body. Insulin is a hormone secreted by the pancreas that is needed to move blood sugar into beta cells. Inside these cells, glucose stored and later used to produce energy. If you have diabetes, your pancreas cannot make sufficient insulin, or your body cannot produce enough insulin it produces. This causes the accumulation of sugar in your bloodstream. Glycomet tablets help to lower blood sugar level and slowly to an appropriate level. If you are overweight, taking Metformin tablets over a long period also helps to lower the complications associated with diabetes. The anti-diabetic agent treats patients with type 2 diabetes when diet and exercise have not been enough to control their blood sugar levels. Doctors may prescribe this anti-diabetic agent alone or with other medications to treat diabetes in adults. The medication can also be given to children ten years and over the adolescents on its own or in combination with insulin.

Take your Glycomet 850 mg tablet exactly as your doctor has prescribed you. You should speak to your doctor if you are not sure about the correct usage of the medicine. It is important to note that anti-diabetic medication cannot replace the benefits of a healthy lifestyle.

Try not to miss any dose. If you do miss a dose, take it when you remember. However, skip the missed dose if it is already time to take the next dose. If you accidentally take too many tablets, consult your doctor straight away. With overdose, there is a risk of causing lactic acidosis in the patients. Be sure to follow the diet restrictions and other advice related to an active lifestyle.
