Flonida 5% is a topical prescription medicine used to treat certain skin diseases, including cancer or conditions that become cancerous if not treated. It contains the active ingredient Fluorouracil, which blocks the growth of abnormal cells that cause the skin condition. It may be used to treat other problems as advised by the health care professional.   

The amount of medicine you take depends on the strength of the medicine. Also, the number of applications each day and the time allowed between the applications. The length of time you apply the medicine depends on the usage of the medicine.

Flonida 5% is for topical usage. Before you apply this medicine to the skin, clean the affected area dry well. Wait at least ten minutes, then apply a small amount of cream to the affected skin, using just enough to cover the affected area with a thin layer. Be sure to wash your hands immediately after applying the medicine, even if you have used gloves to apply the medicine. The treated area may look not so good during treatment and sometimes for several weeks after treatment. Don’t cover the treated area with tight clothing or plastic bandages. Speak to your healthcare provider about covering the treated area loosely with gauze. Avoid applying the cream in or around the eyes or eyelids. Also, don’t apply this medication inside the nose or mouth. If you get this topical product in these areas, wash it with plenty of water.  

Use it as prescribed; do not increase the application time or use it more often. Doing so will not clear your skin condition faster but increases the risk of side effects.  

Before using Fluorouracil formulation, let your health care specialist know if you are allergic to it or any other ingredients in the medicine. Besides Fluorouracil, Flonida cream contains other inactive ingredients, which can contribute to an allergic reaction or other problems. The topical medication may make your skin sensitive to the skin. Limit your sun exposure to the sun.

Avoid sunlamps and tanning booths. Use good quality sunscreen and wear protective clothing when stepping out. Do not apply other skin products, including creams, lotions, medications, or cosmetics, unless instructed by your dermatologist. Seek medical advice if you develop sunburn, have skin blisters, or redness. Flonida may cause fetal harm when administered to pregnant women.  

Common side effects associated with Flonida 5% cream include irritation, redness, itching, burning sensation, tenderness, or changes in skin colour. Eye irritation (such as watering or stinging), irritability, temporary hair loss, trouble sleeping, or abnormal taste in the mouth may also occur.

Inform your dermatologist straight away if any of these side effects get worse or if you have serious side effects, including an allergic reaction to this topical medication is rare. However, get immediate medical help if you develop symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including rash, itching, swelling of the face /tongue/throat, trouble breathing, and severe dizziness.
