US Brand Name | Azopt |
Strength | 1% (5 ml) Eye Drop |
Generic Name | Brinzolamide opthalmic suspension |
Manufacturer | Alcon Laboratories Inc, India |
Azopt 1% (5ml) eye drop is used to treat increased pressure in the eye caused by ocular hypertension and open-angle glaucoma. These eye conditions cause high pressure within the eye, referred to as intraocular pressure (IOP), that may lead to eye pain and harm your vision. The ophthalmic suspension helps in reducing pressure by reducing the formation of aqueous humor secretion and thus relieves eye pain due to glaucoma.
Brinzolamide is the main active pharmaceutical ingredient present in the product. An ophthalmic suspension following topical ocular administration formulated for topical ophthalmic use contains a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor used to treat glaucoma, an eye disorder.
Shake the container well before use. Do not swallow or inject the liquid eye solution. The recommended dose is one drop of Azopt eye drop in the affected eye thrice daily. If you have any doubt regarding the dosage of Azopt eye drops, please consult your ophthalmologist. Your ophthalmologist will advise you how many drops to administer based on your medical condition. The ophthalmic solution may be used concomitantly with other topical products to lower intraocular pressure. If more than one topical ophthalmic solution is being used, your brinzolamide medicine should be used at least after ten minutes.
Do not use Azopt eye drops if you have severe kidney problems or have allergies to sulphonamides. Let your doctor know if you have dry eyes, have cornea problems, or have liver impairment. The ophthalmic formulation is not recommended for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Do not use other eye medications unless your ophthalmologist tells you to.
Never use the product if the seal is broken. Wash your hands before using it and shake the bottle well before each use. Remove contact lenses (if wear) before administering the eye drops and wait for 10 to 15 minutes before putting them back.
The most common side effects of Azopt eye drop 1% are vision problems and a bitter taste in your mouth. Rarely, people may experience shortness of breath, tiredness, dizziness, or heart palpitations. If you have blurred vision or find changes in how you see it, please stop driving until your vision is clear.
