US Brand Name Cytomel T3
Strength 25 mcg
Generic Name L-triidotironin Sodium
Manufacturer Abdi Ibrahim Pharma, Turkey

Tiromel 25 mcg is a hormone medication used to treat mild to severe hypothyroidism (when the thyroid gland can't produce enough hormone). It is also effective at treating enlarged thyroid gland (simple goitre). Tiromel contains liothyronine sodium, a synthetic form of a hormone produced by the thyroid gland called triiodothyronine. It replaces the hormone not produced by your thyroid gland sufficiently and helps regulate your body's energy and metabolism.

You should take Tiromel 25 mcg exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Treatment usually begins with a low dose and then increases gradually as per the patient's response. Generally, it is best to take the dose on an empty stomach before your first meal. It is important to take the medicine regularly to achieve maximum benefits. It may take up to several weeks before your symptoms begin to improve. You may be asked to take this medicine for the rest of your life. If you discontinue treatment, your symptoms are likely to reappear.

Tiromel should not be given to patients with hypersensitivity to Liothyronine sodium. Also, it should not be given to patients with uncorrected adrenal insufficiency. This thyroid replacement therapy is contraindicated in patients with acute myocardial infarction. Before or while you use the liothyronine sodium tablet, talk to your doctor if you have heart problems, kidney disease, problems with the thyroid, high blood sugar,  bone thinning, blood clotting problems, and decreased development of sexual organs. Also, inform about your pregnancy status. Your healthcare provider should also be aware of all the medications you have been using, particularly of the following:

     –   Anticoagulants (blood thinners)

     –   Medicines for the treatment of high cholesterol levels, such as clofibrate, lovastatin, cholestyramine

     –   Birth control pills containing estrogen

     –   Ketamine

     –   Amiodarone

     –   Ethionamide

     –   Diazepam

     –   Methadone

     –   Metoclopramide

     –   Theophylline

     –   Perphenazine

     –   Growth hormones

     –   Tamoxifen

     –   Antidepressants

     –   Digoxin

     –   Para-aminosalicylate sodium

The most common side effects of Tiromel 25 mcg are mainly caused by taking a higher dose than you need. Possible side effects include irregular heartbeat, anxiety, vomiting, weight loss, diarrhoea, tremors, restlessness, and increased appetite. Most side effects resolve once you begin to receive the right dose. Seek immediate medical help if you have a very high temperature, low blood pressure, fat or irregular heart rate, confusion, fits, or yellowness in the eyes/skin. You should inform your health care specialist about any other side effects not included above. You may be advised to discontinue treatment until the symptoms resolve and restart at a lower dose after one or two days.
