Suminat 50 mg is a prescription medicine for patients with acute migraine headaches with or without aura in adults. It contains the active ingredient Sumatriptan, which belongs to a class of drugs known as a triptan, which causes narrowing of the blood vessels in the brain, thus relieving headaches. It is unknown whether the anti-migraine medication is safe and effective in treating cluster headaches. Also, the efficacy and safety of the drug have not been established in children under 18 years of age.
You must use Suminat 50 mg under the supervision of a doctor. Use it exactly as your doctor tells you to use it. Do not change the dosing regimen without discussing it with your doctor. Take the tablet with a glass of water. If you do not get relief after taking the first dose of the medicine, do not take the tablet without discussing it with your doctor. If your headache re-appears or you get some relief after taking the first dose of the medicine, you can take the second dose two hours after taking the first one. Do not take more than 200 mg of Sumatriptan tablets in a day. Taking too many tablets will not help you get rid of the migraine headache but increase the risk of side effects.
Do not use Suminat 50 mg if you have a history of heart problems, uncontrolled blood pressure, severe liver problems, or narrowing blood vessels in your arms, legs, kidneys, or stomach. Sumatriptan should not be given to patients with hemiplegic migraines or basilar migraines. Ask your doctor if you are suffering from these types of migraine. Avoid taking this anti-migraine if you have taken any of these medicines in the last 24 hours:
- Sumatriptan and naproxen
Before you use the Sumatriptan tablet, tell your doctor about all your medical conditions, including diabetes, high blood pressure, heart problems, epilepsy, liver problems, kidney disease, high cholesterol, overweight, or not using effective birth control. Inform your doctor if you become pregnant during the treatment. Let your doctor know if you breastfeed as it may pass into your breast milk and harm your baby. Discuss with your doctor the best way to feed your baby if you use Suminat tablets.
Suminat 50 mg may cause serious side effects, including changes in color or sensation in your fingers and toes and gastrointestinal problems. The symptoms of gastrointestinal issues are stomach pain after meals, nausea or vomiting, constipation or diarrhea, severe stomach pain, weight loss, and fever.
Some people may also experience problems with blood circulation to their legs and feet. The condition is often referred to as peripheral vascular ischemia. Symptoms of peripheral vascular ischemia are
- a feeling of heaviness or tightness in your leg muscles
- burning or aching pain in the feet
- cold feeling or color changes in one or both legs and feet
