Seretide Diskus 500/50mcg (60 Doses) inhalation powder is used to support individuals with asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) who require regular treatment. It is formulated to deliver consistent, accurate doses of two effective medicines: fluticasone propionate (500mcg) and salmeterol (50mcg).
Fluticasone is categorised under the class of drugs known as corticosteroids, also termed as steroids. The anti-inflammatory properties of corticosteroids help reduce swelling and irritation in the walls of the small air passages in the lungs, making breathing easier. Corticosteroids are primarily used to treat asthma and COPD. Salmeterol belongs to the class of bronchodilators, which keep the airways in your lungs open and relieve the symptoms of asthma and COPD. The effects of salmeterol last up to 12 hours.
Seretide Accuhaler 500/50 mcg is generally recommended for adults with severely or poorly controlled asthma or individuals with advanced COPD requiring stronger corticosteroid treatment. When combined, they provide powerful anti-inflammatory action and strong bronchodilation, allowing asthma patients to breathe freely and better control their respiratory symptoms. Those who continue to experience symptoms such as wheezing, coughing, nighttime awakening, or frequent use of a rescue inhaler often benefit from fluticasone 500 mcg in the Diskus. In patients with COPD, Seretide improves lung function, reduces breathlessness, and lowers the risk of asthma episodes or emergency hospitalisation when used regularly. Â
The combination medicine is not meant to treat sudden attacks of breathlessness and will not relieve breathing difficulties in such cases. You will need a different type of medicine, like Ventolin (salbutamol).
Usage methods of Fluticasone and Salmeterol inhalation powder

Follow all directions given to you by your healthcare specialist. Generally, one inhalation twice daily is recommended. The dose and duration of the treatment generally depend on the severity of the condition. Diskus is breath-activated, which means the dose automatically releases when the user inhales. This is especially helpful for elderly individuals or those with difficulty using standard inhalers. Each diskus contains 60 doses, ensuring precise medication delivery without dose variation or leakage.Â
   ‒  When loading a dose, hold the Diskus in one hand. Place your thumb in the thumb grip.
   ‒  Push your thumb as far away from you as it will go. This opens the diskus, and you will find the lever underneath.Â
   ‒  Hold the diskus flat and slide the lever away from you until you hear a clicking sound.  This means you have loaded the dose. Â
   ‒  Exhale slowly away from the device. Seal lips around the mouthpiece.
   ‒  Inhale deeply to activate the dose. Remove the inhaler and hold your breath for ten seconds. Close the diskus. Wash your mouth with water and spit it out to prevent fungal infections.Â
   ‒  It is crucial to use the medicine daily. Do not discontinue treatment even if you feel better unless advised by the healthcare specialist. Never change your dose without medical guidance. If you are breathless or wheezing often than normal, seek medical help. Seretide Diskus helps to control your respiratory condition but does not cure it. It is important to keep taking this medicine even if you feel well. Â
If you are going to have surgery, inform your surgeon that you are taking this asthma medicine, as it may interact with other medicines used during surgery. Â Â

Seretide Diskus is not intended for the treatment of sudden asthma attacks. Be sure to keep a rescue inhaler handy. Inform your healthcare professional if you have hypertension, thyroid problems, osteoporosis, or heart problems. Long-term usage of corticosteroids may have a slight impact on bone density. Ongoing medical supervision is recommended. Avoid sudden discontinuation of the medicine. Certain medications may interfere with each other. These include:
  ‒  Ketoconazole to treat fungal infection
  ‒  Beta blockers for the treatment of blood pressure
  ‒  Ritonavir for treating HIV infection

Seretide Diskus 500 mcg/50 mcg is generally well-tolerated when used appropriately under medical guidance, but some users may experience side effects. The commonly reported symptoms are throat irritation, mild tremors, hoarseness of voice, oral thrush (fungal infection), cough, and heart palpitations (rare). Washing the mouth after each dose reduces the risk of fungal infections and throat irritation.   Â
Seek immediate medical help if you develop any serious side effects such as:
   ‒  Chet's pain or tightness
   ‒  Wheezing or difficulty breathing
   ‒  Hay fever or lumpy rash (hives)
   ‒  Swelling of the face, lips/mouth, eyelids or throat
