Zoldnonat 4 mg contains Zoledronic acid, which belongs to a group of drugs known as a bisphosphonate. The active ingredient acts by attaching itself to the bone and slowing down the rate of bone change. It effectively prevents bone complications such as fractures with bone metastases (spread of cancer the main location to the bone. It also helps reduce the amount of calcium in the blood in adult patients where it is present in excessive amounts due to the presence of a tumor. Cancer can increase the release of calcium from bone. This condition is referred to as hyperglycaemia.

Follow carefully all instructions given by your doctor while taking Zoldonat 4 mg. Your doctor will perform blood tests before giving Zoledronic acid, and he may check your body responds to treatment at regular intervals. You may be advised to drink enough water before each shot to help avoid dehydration. You must carefully inform all the instructions given by your doctor. In general, the recommended dose is Zoldonat 4mg. If you are suffering from renal insufficiency, your doctor will prescribe a lower dose depending on the severity of your renal disorder. If you have been receiving Zoldonat to prevent bone complications due to the spread of bone cancer, you may be given one shot every three or four weeks. If your doctor has prescribed Zoledronic acid infusion for reducing the amount of calcium in your blood, you will only be given one injection. Patients with excessively high calcium levels will also be treated with oral calcium and vitamin D supplements daily. If you receive higher doses than recommended, you may be carefully monitored by your doctor. In this case, you might develop serum electrolytes abnormalities, including severe kidney impairment. If your calcium level falls too low, you may be received supplemental calcium by infusion.

You should not be treated with Zoldonat 4 mg if you are breastfeeding or are allergic to Zoledronic acid, another bisphosphate, or any other medicine ingredients. Let your doctor know of your medical history of kidney problems, pain, swelling, or numbness of the jaw, feeling of heaviness, or having dental treatment before you are given Zoldonat 4 mg. The infusion is not recommended for use in adolescents and children below the age of 18 years. Inform your doctor straight away if you are taking other medicines. Also, inform your doctor if you are taking medicines to treat infections, cancer medications, other medicines containing Zoledronic acid and are used to treat osteoporosis and other non-cancer diseases.

One of the most common side effects of Zoldonot 4mg is low phosphate levels in the blood. Other common side effects include:

  • Gastrointestinal disorders such as nausea and vomiting accompanied by loss of appetite
  • Conjunctivitis
  • Headache and flu-like symptoms
  • Low levels of red blood cells
