Omez 40 mg is a prescription medicine used to treat certain stomach and esophagus problems such as ulcers and acid reflux and relieves heartburn symptoms, difficulty in swallowing, and persistent cough. It contains the active ingredient Omeprazole, a group of medicines known as ‘proton-pump inhibitor’ used to treat the ulcer and acid reflux problem, a condition in which backward flow of acid from the stomach causes heartburn also causes injury to the esophagus. This gastrointestinal drug helps in reducing the amount of acid that your stomach produces that cures heartburn and heals the esophagus.
Omez 40 mg supplies in the form of tablets for oral use. The method of delivery for Omez heavily depends on the diagnosis of a medical condition and the patient’s preference.
Consult your doctor for the recommended oral dose for the treatment of symptomatic GERD and H. pylori infection. The gastrointestinal tablet should be consumed 30 to 60 minutes before meals. When taken twice daily, you have been asked to take the tablet twice daily, before breakfast and the second dose before dinner. The tablet should be swallowed whole with a glass of water. Omeprazole therapy should be at the lowest dose possible for the shortest duration. It is recommended that you take the gastrointestinal tablet in the morning. You can take the tablets with food or empty food. Swallow the tablet with a glass full of water. Do not chew or crush the tablet.
Do not take Omez tablet and tell your doctor if you are allergic to Omeprazole or any other medicine ingredients. If you are not sure, tell your doctor before taking the gastrointestinal tablet. Talk to your doctor before taking medicine. Omeprazole may hide the symptoms of medical conditions. Therefore, if any of these develops before you start taking medicine, talk to your doctor straight away if:
- You get stomach pain and indigestion
- You pass black stools
- You begin to vomit food or blood
- You experience severe or persistent dairrhoea
- You get a rash on the skin
- You have severe liver problems
- You take atazanavir
- You get a rash on the skin
You should tell your doctor if you are taking any other medicines. This is because Omeprazole can affect how other medicines work, and some medicines can affect the mode of action of this gastrointestinal drug.
If you are pregnant or are breastfeeding, ask your doctor for advice. Your doctor will decide whether Omeprazole is suitable for you or not. Omeprazole does not affect the ability to drive or use any machines that require your complete attention.
The primary side effects reported in clinical trials include abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea, headache, vomiting, and flatulence in adults. The major side effects in the paediatric population are similar to adults; the most frequently reported ones included fever and respiratory infections.
