Metolar extended-release capsule is a prescription medicine used to treat hypertension alone or in combination with other blood pressure lowering drugs. It is equally effective in managing angina pectoris to treat stable symptomatic heart failure of ischemic. The extended-release tablet has been formulated to provide a controlled release of the active substance Metoprolol succinate for once-daily administration. Metoprolol relieves tight chest pain caused by insufficient oxygen to the heart and improves irregular heart rhythm. The extended-release capsule treats stable heart failure with symptoms including shortness of breath, swollen ankles when used together with other medicines for heart failure. The medicine can also prevent further attacks or damage to the heart after a heart attack.
Use Metolar extended-release tablet under the supervision of a doctor. If you are not sure about the usage information, check with your doctor. Take the tablet once daily with a glass of water. Do not break or chew the tablet. If you have severely impaired liver function, your doctor may make dose adjustments accordingly. Always use the medication for children and adolescents exactly as your doctor has told you. Do not stop the medication suddenly, as sudden discontinuation may cause worsening of heart failure and increase the risk of a heart attack. Do not take Metolar extended-release capsule if you are already taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors for depression, other blood pressure-lowering medicine, and antiarrhythmics such as disopyramide. Before taking the Metolar capsule, tell your doctor if you are taking other medicines not prescribed by the doctor or those you obtained without a prescription. Certain medicines can increase the effect of lowering blood pressure. These include medications for ulcers, blood pressure, depression, fungal infection, malaria, irregular heart rhythm, pain killers, antipsychotic drugs, and antihistamines. The metoprolol extended-release capsule is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Speak to your doctor for advice before taking any medicine at the time of pregnancy breastfeeding. Metoprolol may make you feel tired or dizzy. Alcohol consumption may increase the blood pressure-lowering effect of Metoprolol, therefore do not consume alcohol during the treatment.
Like any other pharmaceutical agent, Metolar extended-release capsule can cause side although not everybody experiences them. Discontinue and discuss with your doctor if you develop experience symptoms of an allergic reaction such as itchy skin rash, trouble breathing, swallowing, swelling of the face, tongue, lips, or throat. An allergic reaction is serious but rare, and you may need immediate medical attention or hospitalisation.
Common side effects of the medicine include palpitations, feeling sick, constipation, shortness of breath, cold hands and feet, slow heartbeat, difficulty maintaining balance, strenuous physical activity, dizziness, abdominal pain, cold hands, feet, etc. If any of these side effects gets serious, please talk to your doctor.
