Generic For Sporanox
Strength 200mg
Active Ingredient Itraconazole

Itaspor 200mg for Fungal Infections — Trusted Generic Sporanox

Itaspor 100 mg contains the active ingredient Itraconazole, an anti-fungal agent. It treats infections caused by fungi or yeasts in adults. The anti-fungal drug effectively treats infections in the mouth (like thrush), the oesophagus, the genital tract (like a yeast infection), and other areas. Your doctor may also prescribe Itraconazole to prevent cryptococcal meningitis (brain fungal infection) or other types of fungal infection from recurring.

Itaspor is available in 100 mg capsules. The dose usually depends on the type of infection that is being treated. It is usually given once or twice a day. Itraconazole capsules should be consumed immediately after a meal. Do not take an antacid or didanosine simultaneously as Itaspor capsules since sufficient acid must be well absorbed. If you need to take didanosine or your antacid, take it at least an hour before or two hours after taking Itraconazole capsules. If you take anti-ulcer drugs that can decrease the stomach's acidity, absorption may be improved by taking Itraconazole formulation with a cola drink or cranberry juice. Do follow your doctor’s advice when taking this anti-fungal medication. Take the capsules for the duration of time it is prescribed. Stopping the medication too early can lead to the recurrence of infection. If the fungal infection worsens or persists, speak to your doctor. Try not to miss a dose; please talk to your doctor if you do.

Certain drugs can increase the effects of your Itaspor capsules. Also, an itraconazole formulation might influence the effect of other drugs you are taking. Inform your doctor about all prescriptions and over the counter products you are taking. If you wish to start a new medicinal product or a herbal supplement, please consult your doctor taking them. You should not take certain medications if you have been told to take an Itraconazole formulation. These include eletriptan, astemizole, cisapride, lovastatin, quinidine, simvastatin, triazolam, terfenadine, nisoldipine, oral midazolam, levomethadyl, and ergot alkaloids. Women of childbearing potential should only take itraconazole capsules if they use effective birth control measures before and during the treatment. Anti-fungal medication should not be used in pregnant women. Also, breastfeeding is not recommended during the treatment; please discuss this with your doctor if you have any doubt.

Nausea, vomiting, headache, dizziness, and diarrhoea commonly occur during this anti-fungal treatment. These side effects usually resolve within a few days as your body adjusts to the drug. If any of these become bothersome, call your doctor right away. Itraconazole may affect the results of the test liver function. These changes could be an indication of liver damage. Look for nausea, vomiting, unusual fatigue, yellowing of eyes and skin, pale stools, or dark urine. Itraconazole capsules may cause the potassium level to drop in your body.

What is Itaspor 200mg used for?

Itaspor 200mg contains itraconazole, an antifungal medicine (medication that kills fungal infections). You take it to treat fungal infections caused by susceptible fungi, including infections of the nails, skin, mouth, throat, and lungs. Your doctor will prescribe it based on the type and location of your fungal infection. The dose and length of treatment depend on your specific condition. Always take Itaspor exactly as your doctor directs.

How does Itaspor 200mg work in the body?

Itaspor 200mg contains itraconazole, an antifungal medicine that works by damaging the cell walls of fungal infections. It stops fungi from making ergosterol, a substance they need to survive and grow. Without this protection, the fungal cells weaken and die. This allows your body's immune system to clear the infection. Itaspor is effective against many types of fungi that cause infections in your skin, nails, mouth, and other areas.

How long should I keep using Itaspor 200mg?

Your doctor will tell you how long to take Itaspor 200mg based on your infection type and severity. Most fungal infections need treatment for 2–4 weeks, but some require longer courses. Never stop taking it early, even if you feel better, as the infection may return. Always complete the full course your doctor prescribes and attend follow-up appointments so they can check your progress and decide if you need to continue or stop.

What should I do if I forget to take a dose of Itaspor 200mg?

If you forget to take a dose of Itaspor 200mg, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it's almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take your next one at the regular time. Never take two doses together to make up for a missed one. If you're unsure about what to do, contact your doctor or pharmacist for guidance. Keep taking your remaining doses as scheduled.

What things can affect how well Itaspor 200mg works?

Several factors can reduce how well Itaspor works. Taking it with food helps your body absorb it better, so take it with meals. Certain medicines interfere with Itaspor—including some stomach acid reducers, anti-seizure drugs, and blood thinners—so tell your doctor about all medicines you take. Liver problems can affect how your body processes Itaspor. Drinking alcohol heavily may reduce its effectiveness. Your overall health and how well you follow the dosing schedule also matter. Always take Itaspor exactly as prescribed for best results.

How will I know if Itaspor 200mg is working for me?

You'll know Itaspor is working when your infection symptoms improve. For fungal infections of the nails, you may notice new healthy nail growth appearing at the base after several weeks—nails grow slowly, so full clearing takes months. For skin or mouth infections, redness, itching, and scaling should gradually decrease. For internal fungal infections, symptoms like fever, cough, or breathing difficulty should ease. Complete resolution takes time; don't expect overnight results. If you see no improvement after several weeks, or symptoms worsen, contact your doctor to discuss whether the treatment is effective for your specific infection.

What are the common side effects of Itaspor 200mg, and should I be worried?

Most people tolerate Itaspor 200mg well. Common side effects include nausea, stomach upset, headache, and dizziness. These are usually mild and fade as your body adjusts. Less commonly, you might experience rash, itching, or diarrhea. Serious side effects are rare but include severe stomach pain, yellowing of skin or eyes, or signs of heart problems. Stop taking Itaspor and contact your doctor immediately if you experience chest pain, shortness of breath, or persistent vomiting. Always tell your doctor about any side effects before stopping treatment.

Is it safe to use Itaspor 200mg for a long period of time?

Long-term use of Itaspor 200mg requires careful medical supervision. Itraconazole (the active ingredient) can affect your liver function with extended treatment, so your doctor will monitor you with regular blood tests. Duration depends on your specific infection type—some conditions need weeks, others months. Never continue beyond your prescribed duration without consulting your doctor. Your healthcare provider will balance the infection benefits against any risks, adjusting your treatment as needed. Always discuss concerns about long-term use with them before making any changes.

Can vitamins or herbal remedies interfere with Itaspor 200mg?

Some vitamins and herbal remedies may interact with Itaspor 200mg. St. John's Wort (an herbal supplement) can reduce how well Itaspor works in your body. High-dose vitamin C supplements might affect absorption. Calcium and iron supplements taken at the same time may also interfere. Before taking any vitamins or herbal products alongside Itaspor, talk to your doctor or pharmacist—they can check for potential interactions with your specific supplements and advise you on safe timing between doses.

Are there any foods or drinks I should avoid while on Itaspor 200mg?

You should avoid grapefruit and grapefruit juice while taking Itaspor, as they can increase the amount of itraconazole in your body and raise the risk of side effects. Alcohol may also increase certain side effects like dizziness or liver problems. You don't need to avoid other foods, but taking Itaspor with a meal or snack helps your body absorb it better. If you're unsure about specific foods or drinks, ask your doctor or pharmacist before making changes to your diet.

Can older adults or children use Itaspor 200mg safely?

Itaspor 200mg is not recommended for children without specialist advice, as safe doses differ by age and body weight. Older adults can use Itaspor, but your doctor may need to adjust your dose if you have liver problems or take other medicines, since the medicine is processed by the liver. Always tell your doctor your age and any other health conditions before starting treatment. Your doctor will decide the safest dose for you.

Do I need a different dose of Itaspor 200mg if I have kidney or liver problems?

Your dose of Itaspor 200mg may need to be adjusted if you have liver or kidney problems, as these organs help your body process the medicine. Liver problems are more concerning than kidney issues with this medication. You must tell your doctor about any liver or kidney disease before taking Itaspor, as they may lower your dose, monitor you more closely, or choose a different medicine. Never change your dose without speaking to your doctor first.

What are my options if Itaspor 200mg does not agree with me?

If Itaspor 200mg doesn't agree with you, talk to your doctor before making any changes. They can adjust your dose, suggest taking it with food if stomach upset occurs, or switch you to a different antifungal medicine. Never stop taking it without medical advice, as this may allow the fungal infection to return. Your doctor will help find the best option for your situation based on your symptoms and health needs.

How does Itaspor 200mg compare to other treatments used for the same condition?

Itraconazole (the active ingredient in Itaspor) is an azole antifungal [a medicine that kills fungal infections] often used for fungal infections of the nails, skin, and lungs. Compared to other azoles like fluconazole or terbinafine, itraconazole works similarly but may be better for certain infections because it reaches higher levels in nails and skin tissue. Your doctor chooses the best treatment based on which fungus is causing your infection, how severe it is, and any other medicines you take. Effectiveness varies between patients, so what works best depends on your specific condition.
