Generic Name Fluocinolone Acetonide

Flucort H 0.1% cream is a topical preparation containing 0.1% Fluocinolone acetonide and other inactive ingredients. Fluocinolone is a topical corticosteroid that shares anti-inflammatory, antipruritic, and vasoconstrictive actions. It helps to relieve symptoms such as pruritus, erythema, and oedema. The topical medication is indicated to relieve the inflammatory and pruritic manifestations of acute or chronic conditions such as eczema, dermatitis, allergies, and rash. It may be used with a suitable antibacterial or antifungal in treating infected skin.

Wash and dry your hands before using Flucort H cream. Clean and dry the affected areas before applying the cream. Apply a thin film of cream to the affected area and gently rub the formulation, usually two to four times daily, depending on the severity of the condition, as directed by your dermatologist. Do not bandage, wrap, or cover the treated areas unless directed by your dermatologist. As with other corticosteroid therapies, Flucort H should be discontinued when control is achieved.

Speak to your dermatologist if no improvement is seen within two weeks. Topically applied corticosteroids can be absorbed into the skin sufficiently to produce systemic effects. In case of overdose, or accidental ingestion of the drug, irritation develops. In that case, inform your dermatologist immediately and get immediate medical help.

Topical fluocinolone should not be used in case of hypersensitivity to any of the components. The product is for external use only. Avoid contact with the eyes. If contact occurs, wash them with water. Please do not use this cream for any other problem other than for which it was prescribed or for longer than the prescribed period. The treated skin area should not be bandaged or wrapped or covered as occlusive unless directed by your dermatologist. Talk to your dermatologist about using topical fluocinolone in case of pregnancy or lactation. This topical formulation should not be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the risks to the fetus. Caution should be taken when a nursing woman uses corticosteroids. Let your dermatologist know if the condition being treated get worse. If you develop any signs of local adverse reactions, inform your dermatologist. Do not increase the number of applications without having a word with your dermatologist. More frequent application may result in an increased risk of side effects. In the presence of skin infections, an appropriate antibacterial or antifungal drug should be used. If improvement does not occur promptly, the topical corticosteroid therapy should be discontinued until the infection has been adequately controlled.

The following local adverse reactions are reported infrequently with the use of Flucort H and may occur more frequently with the use of occlusive dressings. They include itching, irritation, burning, folliculitis, dryness, hypopigmentation, oedema, rash, stinging, peeling, skin fissures, skin atrophy, or urticaria. The use of cream over large surface areas, prolonged use, and the addition of occlusive dressings increase the risk of systemic absorption of topical fluocinolone and side effects. Tell your doctor about any side effects that appear or become bothersome.
