Generic For Finacea Cream 10%
Strength 10 % (15gm)
Manufacturer Vision (Micro)
Active Ingredient Azelaic Acid

Aziderm cream 10% (15gm) is effective as monotherapy in mild to moderate acne with an efficacy comparable to tretinoin, benzoyl peroxide, erythromycin, among other popular, effective topical agents. It contains the active compound Azelaic acid, developed to address the plugging of pilosebaceous follicles, increased sebum levels, bacterial colonisation with P. Acnes, and inflammation. Azelaic acid is an anti-acne agent with microbial properties. It is believed that the antibiotic effects of topical medications may be due to the inhibition of bacterial protein synthesis. It exhibits excellent total local tolerability and does not induce bacterial acne. The formulation is effective with fewer complications. The exact mechanism of this topical agent remains unknown, but it has been demonstrated to possess antimicrobial activity against P. acnes.

What is Finacea cream 10%?

Like Aziderm, Finacea cream 10% is a topical treatment containing Azelaic acid, but it differs in its concentration, pricing, and packaging. Both topical formulations serve the same purpose, primarily used for treating acne and some forms of hyperpigmentation.

How to use Azelaic acid Cream?

Once you have washed your skin thoroughly and patted it dry, apply a thin film of Finacea or Aziderm cream all over the affected skin area. Gently massage into the skin twice daily in the morning and the evening. Wash your hands after application. The treatment duration can vary from person to person and depends on the severity of the skin condition. Improvement can be seen in most patients with inflammatory lesions within four weeks. It is important to use Aziderm cream 10% for the full prescribed treatment period. Avoid using occlusive dressings or wrappings. Keep the formulation away from the mouth, eyes, and mucus membranes.

In the event of accidental contact with the eyes or other mucous membranes, rinse them thoroughly with a large amount of water and consult your healthcare provider if eye irritation persists. Report abnormal changes in skin colour to the dermatologist. Skin irritation may occur when azelaic acid is applied to broken or inflamed skin. However, this irritation commonly resolves on discontinuation of treatment. If it persists, apply the cream once daily. The treatment should not be stopped until these unwanted effects have subsided. If irritation persists for an extended period and becomes troublesome, consult your dermatologist immediately. The topical medication should be used during pregnancy only if clearly required. Moreover, caution should be exercised when administering the topical formulation to a nursing mother. The safety and effectiveness of Aziderm cream in paediatric patients under twelve years of age have not been established.

Precautions with Azelaic acid cream?

The presence of any skin condition, such as dermatitis, eczema, rosacea, psoriasis, or squamous cell carcinoma, may interfere with acne vulgaris. A history of hypersensitivity or allergy to azelaic acid or other medicine ingredients could interfere with acne therapy. If sensitivity or severe irritation develops with the use of Finacea and Aziderm cream, treatment should be discontinued and an alternative treatment introduced. The prescription and over-the-counter drugs, procedures and activities that are prohibited during the treatment are given below:

     ‒    Use of spironolactone

‒    Medicated soap is used on the face

‒    Any other topical products applied to the facial skin

     ‒    Oral or injectable antibiotics

‒    Oral retinoids for the treatment of acne vulgaris

‒    Use of systemic steroids and immunosuppressive drugs

‒    Antihistamines used within 24 hours
