Active Ingredient Avanafil

Avanair 200 mg is a treatment for erectile dysfunction (ED) in men. It contains the active substance Avanafil, which belongs to a class of medications known as phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE) inhibitors. PDE5 inhibitors are currently the first-choice treatment options for the clinical management of erectile dysfunction of various aetiologies and severities. These drugs increase blood flow to the penis and help men to achieve an erection. Avanafil causes the relaxation of blood vessels in your penis, allowing more blood to flow towards the reproductive organ when you get sexually stimulated.

Avanair is not for use in women and children. It is not known if Avanafil is safe and effective in women or children under 18 years of age. Men should avoid using other medicine to treat erection problems without talking to a doctor. It can be dangerous to take this PDE5 inhibitor with medicines called nitrates (medicines used for chest pain). Do not take this ED medication if you have severe liver or heart problems, recently had a stroke or heart attack, or have low blood pressure. Inform your doctor if you suffer from many of these conditions or health problems before taking Avanair 200 mg. You should not drive if this drug makes you feel dizzy. Avoid consuming alcohol while taking a PDE5 inhibitor, as it could lead to side effects.

The most common side effects of Avanair 200 mg are flushing, headache, stuffy or runny nose, back pain, and sore throat. These are mild and temporary.

Avanafil may uncommonly cause:

   — Priapism (an erection that will not go away) - If you get an erection that lasts more than four hours, get immediate medical help.

   — Sudden loss of eyesight in one or both eyes - This can signify a serious eye problem. It is uncertain whether Avanair directly causes vision loss. Stop taking the medication and call your doctor immediately if you develop sudden vision loss in one or both eyes.

   — A sudden decrease in hearing or complete hearing loss - Some men may develop ringing in their ears or dizziness.

Call your doctor immediately if you develop any side effects that bother you or do not disappear. These are not all the possible side effects of this medicine. For more information, please talk to your doctor.

What is Avanair 200mg used for?

Avanair 200mg contains avanafil, a medicine used to treat erectile dysfunction (difficulty getting or keeping an erection) in men. It works by relaxing blood vessels and increasing blood flow to the penis during sexual stimulation. You take one tablet by mouth, usually 15–30 minutes before sexual activity. The effects typically last several hours. Avanair 200mg is a prescription medicine, so only take it if your doctor has prescribed it for you.

Who is Avanair 200mg meant for, and is it right for me?

Avanair 200mg is a tablet for adult men with erectile dysfunction (difficulty getting or keeping an erection during sexual activity). Your doctor may prescribe it if you're 18 or older and have this condition. However, it's not suitable for everyone. You should not use it if you have severe heart or liver problems, take certain blood pressure medicines, or are allergic to avanafil. Only your doctor can decide if Avanair is right for you based on your medical history and current medicines. Talk to your doctor before using it.

Should I take Avanair 200mg with food, and does the time of day matter?

You can take Avanair 200mg with or without food—food doesn't affect how well it works. However, avoid heavy or fatty meals right before taking it, as they may slightly delay the effect. You can take it at any time of day that suits you, but take it 15–30 minutes before sexual activity for best results. Don't take more than one dose in 24 hours. Always follow your doctor's instructions on when and how to use this medicine.

How much Avanair 200mg should I take, and how often?

Take one tablet of Avanair 200mg by mouth approximately 15 minutes before sexual activity. You can take it with or without food. Do not take more than one tablet in 24 hours. If this dose doesn't work well for you, your doctor may adjust it. Never change your dose without speaking to your doctor first, as they'll consider your health and any other medicines you're taking.

Is Avanair 200mg suitable for long-term use, or is it a short-term treatment?

Avanair 200mg is designed for short-term use when you need it. You take it only before sexual activity—typically 15 to 30 minutes before intercourse. It's not a daily maintenance medicine like blood pressure tablets. You don't take it continuously or long-term. Each dose works for several hours, then leaves your body. However, if you use it regularly over months or years, your doctor should monitor you periodically to ensure it remains safe and effective for your situation. Always discuss your usage pattern with your doctor.

How quickly will I notice Avanair 200mg working?

Avanair 200mg typically starts working within 15–30 minutes after you take it. You'll notice it works best when you're sexually stimulated. The tablet reaches its peak effect around 30–45 minutes, though some men feel results sooner. Effects usually last 6–12 hours. Timing varies based on food intake, metabolism, and overall health, so your experience may differ slightly from others.

Can Avanair 200mg cause an allergic reaction, and what should I look for?

Yes, Avanair 200mg can cause an allergic reaction in some people. Watch for signs like rash, itching, hives, swelling of your lips or tongue, difficulty breathing, or chest tightness. If you experience any of these symptoms, stop taking Avanair and seek medical help immediately. Tell your doctor before taking Avanair if you're allergic to avanafil (the active ingredient) or any other medicines. Mild reactions are rare, but severe ones need urgent attention.

Are there any serious warning signs I should watch out for with Avanair 200mg?

You should seek immediate medical help if you experience chest pain, sudden vision or hearing loss, severe dizziness, or an erection lasting more than four hours. Stop taking Avanair and contact your doctor right away if you have these symptoms. Also watch for signs of an allergic reaction like rash, swelling of lips or throat, or difficulty breathing. Do not take Avanair if you use nitrates (heart medicines) or have recent heart problems. Tell your doctor about all health conditions before starting this medicine.

Can vitamins or herbal remedies interfere with Avanair 200mg?

Most vitamins don't interfere with Avanair 200mg, but some herbal remedies may affect how it works. St. John's Wort and ginseng can reduce Avanair's effectiveness. Ginkgo biloba and garlic supplements may increase bleeding risk. Always tell your doctor about every vitamin, mineral, and herbal remedy you take before using Avanair. Your doctor can check for potential interactions and advise you safely.

Are there any foods or drinks I should avoid while on Avanair 200mg?

You can eat most foods normally while taking Avanair 200mg. However, avoid large high-fat meals right before taking your dose, as they may slow how quickly the medicine works. Grapefruit and grapefruit juice can interact with avanafil (the active ingredient), so skip these. Alcohol may increase side effects like dizziness or headache, so limit intake. These restrictions don't mean you must avoid food entirely—just be mindful of timing and these specific items. Ask your doctor about your individual diet if you're uncertain.

Is Avanair 200mg safe to take during pregnancy or while breastfeeding?

Avanair 200mg is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Avanafil (the active ingredient) is not intended for women and hasn't been studied for safety in pregnancy or while nursing. If you're pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding, do not take this medicine. Speak with your doctor about safe alternatives or whether it's appropriate for your situation. Your doctor can provide guidance based on your individual health needs.

Are there any groups of people who should be extra careful when using Avanair 200mg?

Certain groups need extra care with Avanair 200mg. If you have heart problems, low blood pressure, liver or kidney disease, or are taking nitrate medicines (used for chest pain), tell your doctor before use. Men with penile deformity or sickle cell disease should also inform their doctor. If you're over 65, use with caution as you may need a lower dose. Anyone with a recent heart attack or stroke should avoid this medicine. Always discuss your full medical history with your doctor before taking Avanair 200mg to ensure it's safe for you.

Which strength of Avanair 200mg is most commonly recommended?

Avanair 200mg is the most commonly recommended strength for most men. Your doctor may start you on this dose and adjust it based on how well it works for you and how you tolerate it. Some men need a lower 100mg dose, while others may require the higher 300mg strength. The right strength depends on your individual response, other medicines you take, and your health. Always follow your doctor's prescribed dose.

What should I discuss with my doctor before starting Avanair 200mg?

Before taking Avanair 200mg, tell your doctor if you have heart problems, high or low blood pressure, liver or kidney disease, or a history of stroke. Mention any eye or hearing problems, stomach ulcers, or bleeding disorders. List all medicines you take, including other erectile dysfunction treatments, as they may interact. If you're allergic to avanafil (the active ingredient) or any tablet ingredients, inform your doctor. Discuss any recent major surgery or chest pain. Be honest about recreational drug use, as certain combinations are unsafe. Your doctor needs this information to ensure Avanair is safe for you.

How do I safely dispose of leftover or out-of-date Avanair 200mg?

Do not flush Avanair tablets down the toilet or throw them in household rubbish. Instead, take your unused or out-of-date tablets to a pharmacy or medicine disposal service in your area — most pharmacies offer free disposal. If no service is available, mix the tablets with an unpalatable substance like coffee grounds or cat litter in a sealed bag before placing in household waste. Check your local government website for designated collection points, as disposal methods vary by location.

How should I store Avanair 200mg at home, and what happens if it expires?

Store your Avanair 200mg tablets in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat. Keep them in the original container with the lid tightly closed. Do not freeze or refrigerate them. When Avanair expires, its chemical composition breaks down, making it less effective or potentially unsafe. Never use expired tablets—discard them properly according to local pharmacy guidelines, or ask your pharmacist how to dispose of them safely.
