Althrocin 250 mg is an antibiotic that cures a wide range of diseases including gonorrhoeae, syphilis, influenza, diphtheria, prophylactically treats endocarditis before dental surgery, intestinal amebiasis, chlamydial infections, genital infection, venereum infection, chancroid, trachoma, acne vulgaris, rosaceae, and minor skin abrasions. The active ingredient of the medicine, Erythromycin is a macrolide antibiotic that fights against almost every bacterial infection. It treats multiple infections induced by different bacteria. It has a wide spectrum of activity and is active against multiple strains of bacteria. Adults and children can be taken and acted by killing bacterial infection and is indicated in multiple infections. Erythromycin is believed to terminate the process of protein synthesis which is vital for the survival of bacteria thus ultimately results in death of bacteria.

Althrocin 250 mg should be taken as prescribed by your doctor. Swallow the tablet with a full glass of water. Do not crush or chew the tablet. Take medicine timely and complete a full course of the treatment. Always take medicine as instructed by the doctor. Don’t consume the medicine in a greater amount. The dose intake varies from patient to patient. So, a doctor will recommend the best therapeutic dose for you. Generally, it is taken orally every 6 hours. Never stop the intake of medicine abruptly without consulting with a doctor. Try to take medicine at the same time each day to avoid missing the dose. Inform your doctor if you miss the dose and don’t double up the dose to compensate the missed dose.

The doctor solely decides the dosage of Erythromycin after assessing your condition and various factors such as disease condition, age, body weight and gender. One cannot fix the dose as it varies from patient to patient. The usual recommended dose starts from 250 mg and can be increased or decreased depending upon the condition.

You should not take Althrocin 250 mg if you:

  • Are allergic to Erythromycin
  • Have jaundice or other liver diseases
  • Have kidney problems
  • Are suffering from epilepsy
  • Have myasthenia gravis
  • Have electrolyte imbalance
  • Have heart problems like arrhythmia and hypertension
  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding

Althrocin 250 mg shows common side effects such as mild diarrhea, mild dizziness, mild headache, and constipation. Some serious and rare side effects that need serious consideration are irregular heartbeats, chest pain, severe dizziness, fussiness after eating, nausea, upper stomach infection, itching, fatigue, and loss of appetite, clay-colored stools, dark urine, jaundice, insomnia, tinnitus, or hearing problems, watery or bloody diarrhea, or convulsions.
