Dosing regimen in adults:

In general, it is recommended to initiate antiviral treatment as early as possible, ideally just after the infection begins. For treating recurrent episodes, this should preferably be used when the lesions first appear. The duration of preventive administration is determined by the duration of the period at risk.
For treating infections in patients with a low immune system, the recommended dose is 200 mg four times daily at approximately six-hour intervals. According to the condition, the dose may be adjusted to 400mg twice daily at approximately 12-hour intervals, 200mg thrice daily at approximately 8-hour intervals, or 200mg twice daily at approximately 12-hour intervals.
For varicella and herpes zoster infections, a dose of 800 mg should be used five times a day at approximately four-hour intervals (leaving out the nighttime dose). Generally, treatment should be continued for at least one week.Â

Treatment should begin as early as possible, just after the start of the infection. Treatment of herpes zoster yields better results if started as soon as the rash appears. Precautions with Aciclovir tablets
