Manufacturer AKUMS DRUGS & PHARMACEUTICALS LTD, INDIA
Active Ingredient Tretinoin Gel USP

A Ret gel 0.05% (20gm) is a retinoid medication widely used to treat acne. Tretinoin, the active ingredient, treats acne and effectively reverses many of the visual signs of ageing. The most common use of Tretinoin 0.05% is to remove acne. It quickly removes acne, clearing skin pores and preventing pimples from developing as they normally would. Tretinoin is one of the most effective treatments for acne currently available on the market. It is for patients who are following a total skin care and sunlight avoidance program. The topical medicine works by affecting the production of skin oils, although the exact mechanism of action by which the topical medication works is not fully understood. Tretinoin makes it significantly more difficult for pimples to develop on the facial skin by reducing oil levels. It can take up to 12 weeks to see results from A Ret gel 0.05%. If you develop irritation from using it, consult your dermatologist if the symptoms are troublesome.

What is Retin A gel?

Tretinoin is sold under the brand name Retin A gel, among others. Both perform similar functions in removing acne. Compare Retin-A and A Ret gel 0.05% (20g) prices to save the best.

How to use Tretinoin gel?

Retin-A and A Ret gel 0.05% uses: Use it under the guidance of a dermatologist as part of a sun avoidance and comprehensive skin care program. This skin care program should include protection against sunlight as much as possible (wearing protective clothing, using sunscreen of a minimum SPF of 15) and using face creams/gels that lock skin's moisture. Apply just a pea-sized amount to your entire face. The topical formulation is potent, so a pea-sized amount is sufficient for effective use. Spread it across your fingertips and then gently dab it all over the affected area, smoothing it out. The gel formulation works faster since it is alcohol-based and evaporates quickly. Go a bit lighter around your eyes, nose, and mouth, as these are areas prone to flaking.

Use the formulation at night and apply sunscreen during the day. UV rays make Tretinoin less effective, so it's best to avoid using the product during the daytime, as you won't achieve the same results. If you are making every effort to minimise the product's drying effect, reduce usage to every other night under the supervision of a dermatologist. Tretinoin gel doesn't work for everyone who uses it. It may work better for some patients than for others. When you use this gel formulation, you will not see improvement right away. Generally, users may begin to notice visible effects within 3 to 4 months. If the treatment is stopped, the improvement that was visible earlier will disappear.

Precautions with Tretinoin gel

Do not use Retin A or A Ret gel if you are allergic to any of the ingredients present in the formulation. This formulation may worsen your skin condition during the initial days of treatment before it improves. The condition is temporary and typically resolves on its own. This gel is not recommended for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. When following a tretinoin therapy, be cautious about your sun exposure, as Tretinoin preparations can thin your skin, making it more susceptible to sun damage. However, wearing sunscreen can help minimise damage and reduce the risk of sunburn. Additionally, consider taking extra preventive measures, such as wearing a hat with a brim. One should strictly avoid using a Tretinoin formulation if they are highly sensitive to sunlight.

Side effects of Tretinoin gel

Like all medicines, Retin A or A Ret gel 0.05% gel has some side effects. Generally, all tretinoin formulations are considered safe and effective. However, some users may experience unwanted effects ranging from minor skin irritation to long-term severe side effects.

The most common side effects are a burning or stinging sensation in the skin directly after the application. This is often accompanied by itching, redness, and mild scaling. Many of these minor side effects are temporary and resolve on their own, while other side effects, such as dryness, can be easily alleviated by using moisturisers or other skincare products specifically designed to counteract dryness. More serious side effects are rare and include facial swelling, conjunctivitis, skin discolouration, eyelid swelling, and blisters.
