Zytanix 2.5 mg is used widely to treat hypertension and fluid retention (oedema) in people with congestive heart failure or a kidney disorder. Metolazone is the main active ingredient present in the drug. This medication belongs to the category of medicines known as a diuretic group. It is specifically known to treat arterial hypertension. It helps in reducing blood pressure without affecting the heart rate. Metolazone is also known as a water pill as it prevents the body from absorbing too much salt.  

The recommended dosage of this medicine for adults is 2.5 mg once a day. If needed, this should be adjusted under the supervision of the doctor. Zytanix 2.5 mg drug is available in the form of a tablet to be consumed orally with a sufficient amount of water. Do not crush or chew the tablet. Swallow it completely with a glass full of water. Do not discontinue treatment without first checking with your doctor. If you have been advised to take one dose daily, take it in the morning. If you have been asked to take the medicine twice daily, take it 4 to 5 hours before you sleep so that you do not need to wake up at midnight to pass urine.

Do not take Zytanix tablets if you are allergic to Metolazone tablets or any of the ingredients of this medicine. Tell your doctor if your symptoms are not getting better or if any of the following applies to you:

     –    Have a dry mouth, muscle fatigue, blurred vision, racing heart, chills, muscle pain

     –    You are peeing less or vomiting

     –    Feel faint, thirsty, weak, breathless, drowsy, sick

     –    You have low blood pressure

     –    You have gout

     –    You have kidney problems    

     –    Have any other symptoms that you are worried about

Avoid consuming alcoholic beverages and smoking if you already use Zytanix; alcohol and smoking can affect this drug's effectiveness and working mechanism.

As with all medicines, you should speak to your doctor if you develop any side effects from your treatment. Some side effects may include:

     –   Passing more urine, dry mouth, increased thirst

     –   Dizziness and light-headedness

     –    Potassium loss in the bloodstream

Inform your doctor if these side effects do not resolve or become troublesome. Rarely, this medicine may cause drug allergies. The symptoms of a drug allergy include difficulty breathing, itchy skin rashes, and swollen face/tongue/lips. If you develop these symptoms, you should immediately stop the treatment and see your health care specialist.
