Thyronorm 50 mcg is a prescription medicine for hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid gland). It works by replacing the hormone not being released by your thyroid gland adequately and helps regulate metabolism. Generally, a thyroid replacement treatment is followed for life. Thyronom is not meant to be used for noncancerous growth or enlargement of the thyroid gland in patients with abnormal levels of iodine or cases of temporary hypothyroidism due to an inflamed thyroid gland (thyroiditis).
The dosage and rate of the indication determine the administration of Thyronorm and must be, in every case, individualized as per the patient’s response and laboratory findings. Administer Thyronorm as a single daily dose, on an empty stomach, one-half to one hour before breakfast. Be sure to take your Thyronorm medicine four hours before or after consuming calcium, iron, and antacids. Do not mix this medicine with other medications or over-the-counter supplements.
Thyronorm 50mcg is contraindicated in patients with uncorrected adrenal insufficiency. Thyroid hormones, including Thyronorm, should not be used alone or with other medications to treat obesity or weight loss. In patients with normal thyroid levels, doses of Thyroxine regularly used for hormone replacement are ineffective in losing weight. High doses may contribute to serious or even life-threatening issues, especially when taken with certain other drugs to reduce appetite.
Excessive consumption of Levothyroxine has been associated with increased bone loss, especially in females after menopause. Once a specific dose of this medicine has been determined, your doctor may have lab tests done yearly. Foods such as soybean flour, walnuts, cottonseed meal, and dietary fibre may cause a patient’s body to absorb fewer Thyronorm drugs from the gastrointestinal tract. Grapefruit juice may also affect the absorption of this medicine, ultimately reducing its effects. Therefore, it is important to inform your doctor about foods as there is a need for dose adjustment.
Tell your doctor if you develop symptoms such as rapid or abnormal heartbeat, difficulty catching your breath, irritability, vomiting, diarrhoea, change in appetite, increased sweating, difficulty tolerating heat, swollen red bumps, shaking, leg cramps, weight gain, headache, increased sweating, fever, changes in menstrual period skin rash, or any unusual medical event. Partial hair loss may be experienced by patients using Thyronorm drugs.Â
