Taxim O 200 mg treats certain types of bacterial infections. It contains Cefixime, which belongs to a class of antibiotics called cephalosporins. It destroys bacteria by interfering with their cell wall. Taxim O is an oral treatment for the following bacterial infections: 

• Acute exacerbation of chronic bronchitis
• Community-acquired pneumonia
• ENT infections such as sinusitis, pharyngitis, laryngitis, otitis media, tonsilitis
• Lower urinary tract infections, including gonococcal urethritis
• Uncomplicated pyelonephritis  

Taxim O 200 mg is available in the form of tablets. Take the tablet exactly as your doctor suggests and complete the treatment. Most patients begin to feel better early in treatment, but it is important to take the medication exactly as directed. Once-daily dosing is sufficient to treat the bacterial infection. Usually, the dose is based on the kind of infection and its severity. Consume the tablet with a glass full of water immediately after taking out the pill from the strip. Do not chew, crush, or break the tablet.  Do not miss a dose; if you do, take it as soon as you remember, but the time to take the next dose is near; skip the missed one and take the next dose as per the normal dosing schedule. You may be asked to take medicine before or after consuming food. To avoid gastrointestinal disturbances, prefer taking it with food. Do not exceed the dose recommended by your doctor.

If an allergic reaction to Taxim O 200 mg occurs or to any of its ingredients, the drug should be discontinued. If necessary, the patient should be treated with appropriate medication such as antihistamines, corticosteroids, or pressor amines. Prolonged treatment may increase the possibility of the emergence of resistant organisms, resulting in the overgrowth of bacteria. In such cases, careful observation of the patient is essential. Rarely a superinfection may occur during treatment; in such cases, the appropriate measure should be taken. The antibiotic medication should be used with caution in patients with a history of gastrointestinal disease. Do not use cefixime tablets to treat staphylococcus as this strain of staphylococcus is resistant to Cefixime. Taxim O tablets should be used with extreme caution in the presence of severely impaired renal functions. It should be administered with caution to patients receiving warfarin. Since this kind of antibiotics may enhance the effects of the anticoagulants and this may cause bleeding to occur. The safety of this antibiotic medication in the treatment of infection in pregnant women has not been established.

You may or may not experience side effects during the usage of Taxim O. The antibiotic drug is generally well tolerated when used under a doctor’s supervision. Most of the side effects are generally mild and may include loose stools, diarrhea, vomiting, nausea, anorexia, dyspepsia, abdominal pain, pruritus, dryness of the mouth. The rare but serious side effects include Seizures, acute renal failure, anaphylaxis, steven Johnson syndrome, blood dyscrasias,  superinfections, etc.
