Susten 100 mg helps to restore menstrual cycles in women whose periods have stopped. Each Susten tablet contains 100 mg of Progesterone as an active ingredient. Progesterone is a naturally occurring female hormone produced by an ovary, which is important for regulating ovulation and the menstruation cycle. It relieves symptoms of menopause, such as mood swings, vaginal dryness, reduced sex drive and night sweats.
Since menopause can last for several years, Susten can significantly affect your daily life and mood. However, the medicine may not treat all your symptoms. Talk to your doctor for more information. Susten also helps to establish and maintain pregnancy. It causes menstrual periods in women who have not reached menopause but are not having periods due to a lack of progesterone hormone in the body. It helps to prevent the increase in thickness of the endometrium (lining of the uterus), preparing the uterus for pregnancy. This improves the chances of a successful pregnancy. Your doctor may ask you to continue taking Susten capsules for a period after becoming pregnant.
Susten 100 mg capsules can also be given estrogen as part of hormonal replacement therapy to prevent the thickening of the uterus lining. It should be consumed with food. You should continue taking it for as long as your doctor has prescribed.
Susten should not be used in the following cases:
— Pregnant women
— If the patient has had cancer, such as breast cancer or cancer of the womb lining or ovary
— Women suffering from unexplained abnormal vaginal bleeding.
— Patients with known or suspected sex-steroid-sensitive malignancies
— Patients who have a tumour, dependent on Progesterone or estrogen for growth
— Patients with an overgrowth of the uterus lining
— Women who got their uterus removed. In general, it is advisable to avoid alcohol and smoking.
Common side effects associated with the use of Susten 100 mg are dizziness, abdominal pain, abdominal bloating, hot flashes, vaginal discharge, breast tenderness, urinary continence, joint pain, depression, headache, and abdominal pain.
Side effects are more common during the initial days of starting the treatment and usually lessen as your body adjusts to the medicine. You may develop bleeding or spotting between your periods; talk to your doctor if it happens frequently.
