Amlopres 5 mg is a prescription medicine for treating hypertension and a type of chest pain called angina in adults. It can be used alone or in combination with other medicines to treat these conditions. The medicine has the active ingredient Amlodipine besylate, a type of medicine known as a calcium channel blocker. Amlodipine causes blood vessels to relax in patients with high blood pressure so that more blood can pass through them easily. Whereas, in patients with chest pain, the medicine improves blood supply to the heart muscles; thus, the heart receives more oxygen, and thus chest pain is prevented. However, the medicine does not provide immediate relief from angina.

Take Amlopres 5 mg exactly as your doctor has told you. You must check with your doctor if you are not sure about the usage of the drug. The usual initial dose is Amlodipine 5 mg once daily. You may take it before or after consuming food. For children, a lower may be recommended. Taking too many tablets can cause your blood pressure to become dangerously low. This can make you feel dizzy, faint, or weak. If your blood pressure is severely low, shock can occur.

Do not take Amlopres 5 mg if you are allergic to it or other medicine ingredients or have severe low blood pressure. Avoid taking medicine if you have developed a condition where your heart cannot supply enough blood to the body or if you suffer from heart failure after a heart attack. Take special care while taking the drug if you gave a heart attack, heart failure, liver disease, or severe blood pressure increase. Amlopres should only be used in children and adolescents from 6 years to 17 years. Speak to your doctor for more information. Please tell your doctor if you are taking or have recently taken other medicines, including medicine you obtained without a prescription or herbal supplements. Certain medicines can affect the way Amlodipine works. These include anti-fungal drugs, antibiotics, heart medicines, HIV medications, or St. John’s Wort. Amlopres can cause a sudden drop in blood pressure if you use other medicines to lower high blood pressure. Do not consume grapefruit juice with Amlodipine as this can lead to an increase in the blood levels of Amlodipine which can increase the blood pressure-lowering effect of this medicine.

Common side effects of Amlopres 5 mg include palpitations, headache, abdominal pain, ankle swelling, sleepiness, flushing, and nausea. Visit your doctor immediately if you experience severe side effects such as swelling of eyelids, chest pain, difficulty breathing, swelling of the tongue/throat, which causes difficulty in breathing. Severe skin reactions include reddening the skin all over your body, skin rash, hives, blistering, severe itching, peeling, and skin swelling.
