Ramistar H 5/12.5mg is a prescription for hypertension (high blood pressure). It combines two medicines Ramipril and hydrochlorothiazide, which belong to a group of medications known as Angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE inhibitors) and diuretics, respectively. Ramistar H can reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke, or death from heart problems in patients 55 or older or at high risk of developing a major heart problem. It can also be given to stable patients who have demonstrated signs and symptoms of congestive heart failure post-myocardial infarction.
Take Ramistar-H as directed by the doctor. Take it before or after consuming food. Swallow the tablet whole with a glass full of water. Do not chew or crush the medicine. Your doctor will prescribe the dose depending on your health condition. Avoid stopping the medicine on your own. You should not stop taking the medicine even if your blood pressure reaches normal. Doing so may worsen your condition.  Â
Ramistar H 5/12.5 mg is contraindicated in patients with angioedema (swelling similar to hives) related to previous treatment with ACE inhibitors or a history of idiopathic angioedema. Do not coadminister aliskiren with Remistar H in patients with diabetes or kidney disease. The medicine is not recommended for use in children and adolescents less than 18 years of age. If you are taking other medicines for other health problems or have a history of allergies, tell your doctor, as it may prevent drug-related interactions and serious side effects. Remistar H tablets may interact with other diuretics, blood pressure-lowering medicines (sacubitril, aliskiren, metoprolol), anti-epileptic drugs (phenobarbital, carbamazepine), antidepressants ( metformin), gout medications (allopurinol), birth control pills (drospirenone), painkillers (aspirin, ibuprofen), immune system affecting medicines (sirolimus, everolimus). If you are taking any of the medications, speak to your doctor.  Â
Avoid consuming alcohol with Remsitar H 5/12.5 mg as it may increase the risk of low blood pressure. Do not have potassium supplements with this combination medicine as it may lead to high blood potassium levels. Drink a lot of fluids as the antihypertensive agent as it can cause dehydration, so to avoid unpleasant side effects, increase the consumption of fluids. Â

Common side effects of Ramistar H include tiredness, headache, diarrhoea, nausea, chest pain, stomach pain, indigestion, pain or muscle cramps, and orthostatic hypotension (dizziness while standing, sitting, or lying position).Â
Stop taking Ramsitar H and talk to your doctor if you get any of the following serious side effects:
    –   Severe allergic reactions (such as swelling of the face, lips, tongue, and throat swelling, which can contribute to breathing difficulties, swallowing issues, and itching and rashes). Â
   –    Severe skin reactions include rash, blistering, mouth ulcers, and worsening of previous skin disorders.
   –    Fast and irregular heartbeat, chest tightness, and chest pain Â
   –    Severe stomach pain and stomach pain caused due to inflamed pancreas
   –    Symptoms of liver problems such as hepatitis or liver damage. These include loss of appetite, nausea, stomach pain, yellowing of skin or white of the eyes
   –    Signs of lung problems which include cough and shortness of breath
