Generic Name Ramipril

Ramipres 2.5 treats blood pressure in adults. Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of having a heart complication such as a heart attack or stroke. Its regular use reduces the risk of delay the worsening of kidney problems. The medicine is extremely effective in treating your heart when it cannot pump enough blood to the rest of your body. The condition is often referred to as heart failure. Ramipres 2.5 mg contains Ramipril, a class of drugs known as Angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors or ACE inhibitors. Ramipril decreases your body’s production of substances that could cause a hike in your blood pressure. It makes your blood vessels relax and widen, thus making it easier for your heart to pump enough blood around your body.

Take Ramipres 2.5 mg daily at the same time each day. The medicine comes in the form of a tablet that you must swallow with enough water. Make sure you do not chew or crush the tablet. To treat high blood pressure, your doctor may ask you to take medicine once daily. Your doctor will adjust the amount you take until the desired blood pressure levels are achieved. If you have already prescribed diuretics, your doctor may ask you to stop the amount of the diuretic before you begin Ramipres therapy. The usual recommended dose is 2.5 mg to reduce the risk of heart attack or stroke. Your doctor will make dose adjustments according to the treatment response of the patient.

The same dose is effective to treat heart failure and reduce or delay the worsening of kidney problems,

In elderly patients, the doctor will reduce the dose and gradually adjusts the medicine.

Do not take Ramipres 2.5 mg if you are allergic to Ramipril or any other ACE inhibitors. Signs of an allergic reaction to this hypertension and blood pressure medicine are swallowing or breathing problems, a rash or swelling of your lips/face/tongue/throat.

Avoid taking Ramipril if you have dialysis, kidney problems, diabetes, and if your blood pressure is normally low or unstable. Do not use Ramipril during the last six months of pregnancy. It is important to check your blood pressure, kidney function, and the amount of potassium in your blood at regular intervals.

Stop taking Ramipres 2.5 mg tablets and speak to your doctor right away, if you notice serious side effects such as:

  • Severe skin rash including ulcers in your mouth, blistering or detachment of skin, worsening of pre-existing skin disease, reddening
  • Swelling of the face/throat/lips, which make it difficult to breathe, as well as itching and rashes. This could be a sign of a serious allergic reaction to Ramipres 2.5 tablets.

Let your doctor if you experience a faster heart rate, shortness of breath accompanied with cough, bruising more easily, loss of appetite, fever, chills, or signs of a severe liver problem.
