Manufacturer Vivimed Labs
Active Ingredient Xylometozoline Hydrochloride

Otrivin Paediatric Nasal Drops 0.05% are a prescription medicine for fast relief from a blocked nose. It helps clear and soothe a blocked nose, thereby relieving congestion caused by hay fever, a common cold, or other respiratory allergies in children.

The active ingredient of the medicine is Xylometazoline, which helps to unblock the nasal passages by reducing excessive nasal secretions. This allows your child to breathe normally. Since Otrivin Paediatric is a nasal drop, it is intended for external use only through the nasal route.

Instructions for using Xylometazoline nasal drops

Otrivin Paediatric 0.05% provides quick relief, approximately within two minutes, that lasts for several hours. It can be used in children aged 1 to 11 years old only under the supervision of a paediatrician.  The dosing regimen is given below:

For children 1 to 5 years of age- The usual recommended dose is 1 to 2 drops into each nostril once or twice a day (every 8 to 10 hours)

For children aged 6 to 11 years, the recommended dose is 2 to 4 drops into each nostril, twice or thrice daily as needed.

It is recommended not to exceed three applications a day into each nostril. It is recommended to administer the last dose to your child before bedtime. The nasal drop should not be administered for more than ten consecutive days. If symptoms persist, consult the paediatrician. Prolonged and excessive use of the nasal solution may cause a recurrence of nasal stiffness or exacerbate it.

Usage instructions:

Make sure your child's nose is clear. Tilt your child's head back as far as they are comfortable, or if lying in bed, ensure the head hangs over the side. Apply the drops into each nostril and keep the head in the same position for a few minutes to allow the nasal spray to spread throughout the nose. If you miss the nose application, administer the drop again. If you think some part of the drop gets into the nose, do not administer the nasal formulation again. Repeat the steps for the other nostril. Clean and dry the nozzle before putting on the cap.

Ensure that you do not touch the nozzle to your child's nose while administering the nasal solution. To prevent the possible spread of infection, ensure you have a bottle of Otrivin nasal spray for each child.
