Olmezest AM 5/20 mg is a combination medicine that contains two antihypertensive agents, namely Olmesartan and Amlodipine. Both are combined in one tablet to provide symptomatic relief to patients dealing with hypertension (high blood pressure). The combination product is indicated for the treatment of hypertension alone or with other antihypertensive agents to lower blood pressure. Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of severe heart complications such as strokes and myocardial infarctions. Your doctor may also prescribe this medicine as initial therapy in patients who require multiple antihypertensive agents to control blood pressure.

The suggested dose of Olmezest AM is 5/20 mg once daily. The dosage can be increased after one to two weeks of the treatment. Follow your doctor’s advice when taking Olmesartan/Amlodipine formulation. Consider treatment discontinuation only under the supervision of a doctor. Be sure to take medicine regularly the way your doctor prescribes it. The combination medicines are supplied in tablets that you swallow with a glass full of water. Try not to miss any dose; otherwise, results may delay, and you may have to wait for more for achieving blood pressure targets.

Olmeszest is not recommended for initial therapy in patients above 75 years of age and with hepatic insufficiency. Increased angina (chest pain) or myocardial infarction (heart attack) may occur upon dosage initiation or increase. Patients with renal impairment should exercise caution. Drinking alcohol during the treatment may cause low blood pressure; therefore, avoid alcohol consumption. Low blood pressure may make you feel dizzy.

The most commonly reported side effects of Olmezest are tiredness, nausea, dizziness, headache, muscle twitching, swelling of the ankles, feet and hands.
