US Brand Name Nimotop
Generic Name Nimodipine
Manufacturer USV Pvt Ltd, India

Nimodip is prescribed to improve neurological outcomes by reducing the incidence and severity of cerebral vasospasm following subarachnoid hemorrhage. Subarachnoid hemorrhage is bleeding into the subarachnoid space (space between your brain and the surrounding membrane). Nimodip contains the active substance Nimodipine, a calcium channel blocker and helps enhance blood circulation to the brain and prevent changes in brain function.

Nimodip 30 mg is usually started as soon as possible after bleeding around the brain, or subarachnoid hemmorhage is confirmed by your doctor. The exact dose and duration will be decided by your doctor, depending on your condition. Nimodip supplies in the form of a tablet that you may take before or after consuming food. To get the most benefits, follow your doctor’s instructions. You must not take an antacid for two hours before or after taking a Nimodipine formulation. Treatment discontinuation should only be considered under medical supervision.

Nimodip 30 mg must not be administered in case of hypersensitivity to the active substance or any excipients. It should not be given to patients during or within one month of myocardial infarction (heart attack) or an unstable episode of angina (severe chest pain).

Before taking Nimodipine 30 mg tablets, let your doctor know if you have any heart or liver-related problems. Certain medicines can interact with Nimodip and affect its mode of action, especially medicines to treat high blood pressure and seizures or heart conditions. Furthermore, inform your doctor about all the medications you are taking to ensure you are safe. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should consult their doctor for advice before taking this medicine. It is important to keep a close eye on your blood pressure while taking a calcium channel blocker drug.

The most common side effects include increased heart rate, stomach discomfort, decreased blood pressure, muscle cramp, nausea, rash, headache and swelling over the whole body. Talk to your doctor if any of these bother you, get worse, or do not go away within a few days.
