Monotrate SR 30mg is prescribed to patients with heart problems, chest pain, angina, and coronary artery disease. This drug is highly effective in lowering blood pressure by dilating blood vessels, thereby balancing the stress on the heart. However, this drug may show no effect if a patient is already suffering from severe chest pain or angina.
Isosorbide mononitrate is the main active ingredient present in the drug Monotrate SR 30mg. It belongs to a group of organic nitrates. Isosorbide Mononitrate acts as a vasodilator, thereby widening the blood vessels to ease blood flow. It is used as a medication for patients who are at high risk of heart attack and other complications related to cardiovascular disorders and angina.
The key role of this drug is to relax the arteries, veins, and smooth muscles. This drug decreases the stress suffered by the heart, and it is one of the highly prescribed drugs to treat myocardial infarction, chest pain, angina, and other cardiovascular complications.
Isosorbide mononitrate is available in various strengths as tablets. The recommended dose for adults suffering from angina pectoris and coronary artery disease is a 30 mg tablet twice daily.
Ø There should be a time interval of at least 7 hours between the two doses.

Usage instructions - Isosorbide mononitrate tablet
Take this medicine in the dose as prescribed by your doctor. Swallow the tablet (without chewing or breaking it) with a glass of water. Keep taking the medicine for the prescribed period and do not stop the treatment in between without consulting a doctor.
Do not worry if you forget to take your medication on time. Take it once you remember. If a patient is suspected of consuming an overdose of this drug, immediately consult your doctor and do as advised.

Ø Some medicines can have a high risk to pregnant and lactating women. Before taking Isosorbide mononitrate, inform your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. This medicine can adversely affect the foetus during pregnancy and the infant during lactation periods.
Drug interactions:
The following drugs have been reported to contraindicate the medicine Isosorbide mononitrate:
Ø Sildenafil
Ø Vardenafil
Ø Tadalafil
Ø Riociguat
Ø Vasodilators like alcohol are reported to enhance the effect of Isosorbide mononitrate.
Ø Organic nitrates are known to cause orthostatic hypotension.
Ø Calcium channel blockers are also reported to cause severe conditions of hypotension.
Sildenafil, Vardenafil, and Tadalafil belong to the group of phosphodiesterase inhibitors, and excessive use of these drugs can cause myocardial ischemia, hypotension, and syncope. These drugs are usually prescribed for erectile dysfunction. Riociguat belongs to a group of soluble guanylate cyclase inhibitors, and excessive use of this drug can cause severe complications of hypotension.
