Metaspray 50mcg (100 mdi Nasal Spray) for Allergic Conditions — Trusted Generic Nasonex

Metaspray 50 mcg is used to treat and prevent seasonal and year-round allergy symptoms such as itching, nose, stuffy nose, and sneezing. It is also effective in treating certain growths in the nose (nasal polyps). The medicine contains mometasone, which belongs to a class of medications known as corticosteroids. The class of drugs works by reducing inflammation (swelling) in the nasal passages.

Before spraying, shake the container well and actuate the pump ten times. If the pump is not used for two weeks or longer, reprime the pump with two actuation until a uniform spray appears before the next use.

Use this medication as directed/prescribed by your doctor, usually once daily for a runny nose and once or two times a day for polyps. Do not spray the medication in the eyes and mouth. Gently blow your nose before using the medication. To use metal spray, remove the protective cap first. Close your one nostril with your finger. Carefully insert the nasal applicator into the other nostril. Press down the pump to deliver the prescribed number of sprays. Breathe in gently through your nose and out through your mouth. Repeat the process in the other nostril. Clean the applicator tips by wiping them off. Ensure you do not blow your nose for 15 minutes after using this medication.

The dosage is usually based on the patient’s medical condition and response to treatment. Younger children may require a smaller dose. To help you remember, use the medication daily. Do not change your dosing regimen in between. The nasal spray will not work right away. Some people may feel the effects within two days, but it may take up to two weeks before full effects occur. When using mometasone spray to prevent seasonal allergy symptoms, you may need to take the treatment 2 to 4 weeks before pollen season appears. Ask your doctor if you should also use other medications (such as oral antiallergic drugs and eye or nose drops).

Metaspray should not be used in patients with hypersensitivity to the active ingredient mometasone furoate or any of the excipients of the medicine. It is contraindicated in patients with untreated localized infections involving the nasal cavity, such as herpes simplex. Mometasone spray should be used cautiously in patients with respiratory tract infections or untreated bacterial, fungal, or viral infections.

Throat dryness, nose irritation, nosebleeds, and blood-tinged mucus may occur. If these side effects persist or worsen, speak to your doctor immediately. Many people using this nasal spray do not have serious side effects. Inform your doctor right away if serious side effects occur. The serious side effects include pain in your nose, the development of sores in your nose, and pain/trouble swallowing.

What is Metaspray 50mcg (100 mdi Nasal Spray) used for?

Metaspray 50mcg is a nasal spray containing mometasone furoate, a corticosteroid (a medicine that reduces swelling and inflammation). You use it to relieve symptoms of allergic rhinitis (nasal allergies), such as sneezing, itching, runny nose, and nasal congestion. It works by calming the immune response in your nasal passages. Your doctor may also prescribe it to treat nasal polyps (small growths inside the nose) or other inflammatory nasal conditions. Use it regularly as directed for best results.

How does Metaspray 50mcg (100 mdi Nasal Spray) work in the body?

Metaspray works by reducing inflammation and swelling in your nasal passages. The active ingredient, mometasone furoate, is a corticosteroid (a medicine that calms down immune responses causing inflammation). When you inhale it into your nose, it acts locally on the nasal tissues to decrease mucus production, swelling, and allergic reactions. This helps relieve congestion, sneezing, and itching. The medicine works directly where sprayed, with minimal absorption into your bloodstream, making it effective for nasal allergy symptoms.

How long should I keep using Metaspray 50mcg (100 mdi Nasal Spray)?

You should use Metaspray for as long as your doctor recommends. Most people use it regularly every day during allergy or inflammation seasons, or for several weeks or months if treating a specific condition. Do not stop using it without speaking to your doctor first, even if you feel better — stopping suddenly may allow symptoms to return. Your doctor will tell you when to stop or adjust your dose based on how well it's working and your individual needs.

How many puffs of Metaspray 50mcg (100 mdi Nasal Spray) should I take, and how often?

Your doctor will tell you the exact number of puffs and how often to use Metaspray based on your condition and age. The usual adult dose is 2 puffs in each nostril once or twice daily, but this may be different for you. Always follow the instructions on your prescription label or from your doctor. Do not use more puffs than prescribed, as using too much can reduce how well the medicine works and may cause side effects. Ask your pharmacist if you're unsure about your dose.

How will I know if Metaspray 50mcg (100 mdi Nasal Spray) is working for me?

You'll notice Metaspray is working when your nasal symptoms improve. Expect reduced nasal congestion, less sneezing, and fewer itchy or runny nose symptoms within a few days of regular use. Your nasal passages should feel clearer, and you may breathe through your nose more easily. If you don't see improvement after one to two weeks of daily use, or if symptoms worsen, contact your doctor. Everyone responds at different speeds, so patience with treatment is important.

What things can affect how well Metaspray 50mcg (100 mdi Nasal Spray) works?

Several factors can reduce how well Metaspray works for you. Blowing your nose just before use can remove the medicine. Using it incorrectly—not inhaling deeply enough or spraying to the side of your nose—means less medicine reaches your airways. Nasal congestion from a cold or blocked sinuses can also block the spray. If you're taking other nasal sprays or decongestants, tell your doctor first, as they may interfere. Consistent daily use works better than occasional doses. Poor inhaler technique is the most common reason it doesn't work as expected.

Are there any serious warning signs I should watch out for with Metaspray 50mcg (100 mdi Nasal Spray)?

With Metaspray, contact your doctor immediately if you develop signs of a serious infection (fever, prolonged cough, difficulty breathing), severe allergic reaction (rash, swelling of face or throat), or vision changes. These are rare but need urgent attention. Most people use this nasal spray without serious problems. If you notice anything unusual or concerning, speak to your doctor promptly.

Can regular use of Metaspray 50mcg (100 mdi Nasal Spray) inhaler affect my throat or voice?

Regular use of Metaspray 50mcg can sometimes cause mild throat irritation or hoarseness in some people. This happens because the medicine is inhaled and may coat your throat. To reduce this risk, rinse your mouth with water after each use—this helps wash away any leftover medicine. Most people tolerate it well, and any throat effects are usually mild and temporary. If hoarseness persists or worsens, tell your doctor.

Can I use other inhalers at the same time as Metaspray 50mcg (100 mdi Nasal Spray)?

You can use other inhalers alongside Metaspray, but timing matters. Inhale your reliever inhaler (like salbutamol) first, wait 5–15 minutes, then use Metaspray. This lets your airways open before the steroid reaches deeper into your lungs. Always tell your doctor about all inhalers you use, as they may adjust doses to prevent overlapping effects. Never stop or change any inhaler without medical advice.

Can vitamins or herbal remedies interfere with Metaspray 50mcg (100 mdi Nasal Spray)?

Most vitamins and herbal remedies do not interfere with Metaspray. However, some herbal products—particularly those that affect blood clotting or inflammation—may interact with your nasal spray in ways we don't fully understand. St. John's Wort and ginkgo biloba are examples. Before starting any new vitamins or herbal remedies, tell your doctor or pharmacist you're using Metaspray. They can check for potential interactions and keep your treatment safe and effective.

Can older adults or children use Metaspray 50mcg (100 mdi Nasal Spray) safely?

Metaspray is a nasal spray, not for inhaling into lungs. Children aged 2 and over can use it safely under adult supervision. Older adults can also use it, but those with certain conditions like untreated nasal infections or recent nasal surgery should consult their doctor first. Always follow your doctor's prescribed dose. If you're unsure whether Metaspray is right for you or your child, speak with your healthcare provider before starting.

Are there any groups of people who should be extra careful when using Metaspray 50mcg (100 mdi Nasal Spray)?

Certain groups need extra care with Metaspray. If you have a nasal infection, recent nasal surgery, or nasal injuries, tell your doctor before using it. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should consult their doctor first. People with tuberculosis, fungal infections, or weakened immune systems need medical guidance. Children under 2 years should not use it. If you have glaucoma or high eye pressure, discuss this with your doctor. Always inform your doctor of existing health conditions before starting.

Which strength of Metaspray 50mcg (100 mdi Nasal Spray) is most commonly recommended?

Metaspray 50mcg is the standard strength most doctors recommend for adults with nasal allergies or inflammation. This single-strength product is designed to deliver consistent relief when you use it as prescribed. Your doctor will tell you how many times daily to use your inhaler based on your condition's severity. Always follow your doctor's instructions rather than adjusting the strength yourself, as the right dose depends on your individual symptoms and medical history.

How does Metaspray 50mcg (100 mdi Nasal Spray) compare to other treatments used for the same condition?

Metaspray is a corticosteroid (a medicine that reduces inflammation and swelling) inhaled into your lungs to treat airway inflammation. It works by calming your immune response in the airways. Compared to other treatments, Metaspray is often preferred because it acts directly where needed, meaning less medicine enters your bloodstream. Some people use it alongside other medicines like bronchodilators (medicines that open airways) for better control. Your doctor will choose the best treatment based on your specific condition, symptoms, and how your body responds. Ask your doctor which option suits you best.

How do I safely dispose of leftover or out-of-date Metaspray 50mcg (100 mdi Nasal Spray)?

Do not throw Metaspray down the sink or toilet. Return unused or out-of-date inhalers to your pharmacist or local medicine disposal service — they will safely destroy the pressurised canister and active ingredient. Your pharmacy will accept it at no cost. If no local scheme exists, ask your pharmacist for guidance on safe disposal in your area. Never incinerate the canister yourself.
