Mefenamic acid is a non steroidal anti inflammatory drug used in relieving pain, redness and inflammation. It stops the generation of inflammatory mediators thus reduces the inflammation and uterine contractions. It is one of the most recommended drugs given as a pain killer especially in menstrual pain and discomfort.

How it works?

Mefenamic acid is a non steroidal anti-inflammatory drug and is known to relieve pain by binding to the Cyclooxygenase enzyme (COX) receptor and stops the conversion of arachidonic acid to prostaglandin (PG’s). Prostaglandin is a precursor for inflammatory mediators as it generates inflammatory mediators which cause pain, fever, swelling and tenderness. Mefenamic acid is rapidly absorbed in the body and its maximum therapeutic effect is attained within 2 to 4 hours after taking it.

When should you avoid it?

You should not take Mefenamic acid if you:

How to take?
