Lonitab 2.5mg is a prescription medicine for treating hypertension (high blood pressure). It contains the powerful active ingredient Minoxidil. Your body puts its best efforts to reverse the blood pressure to the original high level when Minoxidil works to lower it. This medicine is believed to hold onto water and salt to speed up the heartbeat. To prevent such action, the doctor prescribed a water pill (known as a diuretic) to eliminate extra buildup fluids from your body and another medicine to slow down your heartbeat. Ask your doctor about the frequency and correct dosage you need to take. Swallow the tablet with a glass of water, preferably after a meal. Take the medicine at the same time each to avoid forgetting the dose administration.
Precaution with Minoxidil tablets

Side effects of Minoxidil tablets
Like any other medication, Lonitab 2.5 mg may also cause unwanted effects. Lonitab 2.5 mg side effects could also be serious in some patients; make sure to take the medicine under the close supervision of a doctor to eliminate the side effects. Look for immediate medical help if a patient develops any of the following warning signs:
    ‒   Increase in heart rate - Measuring your heart rate at resting stage is important. If a patient’s heartbeat increases by twenty beats or more in a minute compared to the normal pulse, call the doctor.
    ‒   Rapid weight gain – Ensure you measure your weight regularly. The rapid gain of weight from 5 or more pounds or if you develop puffiness or swelling on the face, hands, stomach area, or ankles could be a sign of retained body fluids. In this case, your doctor may change or alter the dosage of the medications. Furthermore, you may also be advised to reduce the amount of salt in your diet.
    ‒   Increased breathing problems – You may experience increased breathing problems, especially when you are lying down. This usually happens because of the elevated levels of body fluids. In some cases, it happens because of the worsening of high blood pressure. In both cases, you may require a change of the medications.
    ‒   Dizziness or fainting- High blood pressure levels may cause you to feel lightheaded and dizzy.
    ‒   New or worsening pain in the chest, arm, or shoulder – These pain are the clear signs of heart problems.
