Kombiglyze XR 5/500 mg is a combination therapy to treat type 2 diabetes. The medicine effectively controls high blood sugar levels in a patient with type 2 diabetes mellitus. It is a prescription medication to prevent diabetes complications like kidney damage, the chance of stroke or heart attack, and blindness.

The drug's active ingredients are Metformin (500 mg) and Saxagliptin (5 mg). The medicine works by decreasing the amount of glucose in the blood, thereby controlling the amount. It also works by increasing the amount of two incretin hormones in the body.

Kombiglyze can be prescribed alone or in combination with other diabetes drugs. All diabetes medications work best with a healthy diet and regular exercise.

The drug is an oral anti-diabetic which belongs to a class of medicine called dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitors.

The recommended dose will depend on several factors; your doctor will prescribe the right dosage for you considering your health condition, blood sugar levels and what other medication a patient may be taking. The dose should not be fixed without consulting a doctor, as it may lead to adverse health effects.

Taking this medicine with meals helps to reduce the chances of developing an upset stomach.

  — Do not take the medicines if you are allergic to the main ingredient or any other drug ingredient.

  — Do not share your medicine with anyone, even if the person suffers from the same symptoms.

  — Use the medicine only for specified purposes and not for any other purpose.

  — Tell your doctor if you are taking any anti-diabetic drug called sulphonylurea or insulin. If so, your doctor will reduce the dose because it may lead to excessively low blood glucose.

  — Tell your doctor if you have liver, heart, or kidney disease or are suffering from other ailments. Disclosing the medicines, you are taking currently should also be done to avoid drug interaction.

  — Don’t hesitate to visit a doctor if you find no relief even after taking the medicines.

Drug Interactions:

Several medicines may interact with Kombiglyze Xr Tablet if taken together, thereby increasing or decreasing the medicine's working. Mention all medication your doctor that you may take to avoid drug interaction.

• Upper respiratory infection
• Inflammation of air cavities around the nose and sore throat

• Urinary tract infection
• Urge to vomit
• Low blood sugar levels
• Rash
