Ivetab 12 mg contains the active ingredient Ivermectin, derived from a class of antiparasitic agents called avermectins. It treats river blindness (onchocerciasis) and threadworm involving the intestines (intestinal strongyloidiasis). Worm infections cause these infections. In people with river blindness, the worm infection mainly affects the skin, eyes, and glands. Changes to the skin may include an itchy rash, dark patches, nodules, thickening skin, and loss of elasticity. The worm infection can also affect your eyes and may cause conjunctivitis (pink eye). Conjunctivitis causes painful eyes and may lead to blindness.
In intestinal strongyloidiasis, the worm infection mainly affects the intestines of an infected individual. Symptoms include an itchy rash, vomiting, diarrhoea, and stomach pain. Ivermectin works by killing the developing worm.
The antiparasitic drug can also be given to treat scabies caused by scabies mite. This infection often causes intense itching of the skin, particularly at night, accompanied by blisters on the skin. The infection may spread from one person to another via sexual contact though transfer via clothing or furnishing is also possible.
Your doctor will advise you on how many tablets you need to take to treat your infection. The dose usually depends on the type and severity of the infection. In children, the dose also depends on the paediatric patient's weight. In general, a single dose is recommended. To treat river blindness, you may be advised to take another dose in six to twelve months. Ivetab can be used alone or in combination with other treatments for scabies. Follow your doctor's advice when it comes to using Ivermectin 12 mg.
Do not take Ivetab 12 mg if you have an allergy to Ivermectin or any other ingredients in the formulation.
