Imatib 100 contains Imatinib, a member of the class of medicines known as tyrosine kinase inhibitors. It is used to treat blood cancer (chronic myeloid leukaemia and Acute lymphatic leukaemia) and gastrointestinal stromal tumor. Imatinib mesylate is present in Imatib, part of a group of medicines called corticosteroids that reduce inflammation. Leukaemia is white blood cells cancer. Imatib is also used to treat myelodysplastic/myeloproliferative disease, hypereosinophilic syndrome (HES), chronic eosinophilic leukaemia, and dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans in adults. Tyrosine kinase is a chemical messenger that cancerous cells use to signal each other for their growth. This medicine blocks the tyrosine kinase and stops the growth of cancerous cells. The anti-cancer medicine inhibits the growth and induces apoptosis in cancerous cells. This is the way it works or slows the spread of cancer.

The dose of Imatinib will be fixed after taking into consideration several factors. Before fixing the recommended dose, your doctor will examine you thoroughly. Imatib 100 is always taken with food and same time every day. Swallow the medicine. Do not chew, crush or break it. Always take medicine with the doctor advice. The duration of the treatment differs from person to person, so keep taking medicine as long as your doctor advises it. Do not take this medicine with alcohol and during pregnancy or breastfeeding. A missed dose should be taken as soon as you remember it, provided it is not close to the next dose. Never consume extra medicine to compensate for the missed dose. Taking medicine at the same time every day can reduce the chances of missing a dose.

Tell your doctor in case suffering from any ailments such as heart, kidney or liver problems. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to be pregnant or breastfeeding your baby. The drug is never to be given to children unless prescribed by the doctor. It is advisable not to indulge in an activity that requires alertness, such as operating heavy machinery or driving. Use the medicine only for the purpose specified and not for any other purpose. Do not use the medicine if you are allergic to the main ingredient or any other drug ingredients.

Some medicines may increase or decrease the activity of the tablet when taken together with certain medicines. Some of such medicines which should not be taken together with Imatib Tablet are Acetaminophen, Drugs metabolized by cyp3a4, and Drugs metabolized by cyp2d6. Some of the common side effects of the medicine include Blurred vision, Fever, Bone pain, Chills, Headache, Feeling dizzy, Constipation, Sore mouth, Mouth ulcers, Indigestion, Hair loss.
