Generic Name Febuxostat

Febucip 40 mg is a prescription medicine to lower blood uric acid levels in adults with gout. Gout occurs when too much uric acid is in your body, forming crystals that can appear around your joints, causing painful and swollen joints. This medicine contains Febuxostat, which helps to keep uric acid levels low, thus reducing pain, swelling, and stiffness in joints.

Carefully follow the instructions given on your prescription provided by your doctor. The tablet can be taken with antacids. Your gout may flare up when you begin taking Febucip, do not stop taking this medicine even if you have a flare. You may be advised to take it with other medicines to help prevent your gout flares.

Usually, this medicine can be taken before or after consuming food. If you stop treatment, your symptoms may get worse because of the formation of more crystals in your joints. You can help yourself by making simple dietary changes (ex-, avoiding alcohol and non-vegetarian foods) and drinking plenty of fluids.

It is not known if the medicine is safe and effective in children under 18 years of age. Coadministration of medicines such as azathioprine and mercaptopurine is contraindicated. Febucip should be used cautiously in patients with severe liver and kidney disease. Dose adjustment may be required in case of severe liver or kidney disease.

Serious skin and hypersensitivity reactions, including Stevens-Johnson syndrome, have been reported in patients taking a xanthine oxidase (XO inhibitor). No studies have been conducted on patients with severe liver insufficiency.

Before taking Febuxostat, tell your doctor:

   –  If you are pregnant or breastfeeding. It is not known if Febuxostat passes into your breast milk.

   –  About all your medications you are taking, including prescription and non-prescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements. Febuxostat may affect the mechanism of action of other medicines, and other medicines may affect how Febuxostat works. Also, it may cause side effects that could affect the ability to drive. This medicine may cause sleepiness, numbness or tingling sensation, or blurred vision.

Heart complications. A small number of heart attacks, strokes, and heart-related deaths were seen in clinical studies. It is not certain that Febuxostat caused these events.

The most common side effects of Febucip 40 mg include nausea, rash, joint pain, and gout flares. Let your healthcare provider know if you develop a rash, have any side effects that bother you, or do not resolve independently. These are not all the possible side effects of Febuxostat. For more information, ask your doctor.
