Active Ingredient Exemestane

Exeget 25 mg is a prescription medicine for the treatment of breast cancer in females who no longer have their menstrual periods after menopause or after surgical removal of the ovaries. It is useful in reducing the risk of recurrence or spreading of breast cancer. Exeget is also effective when the cancer has not responded or has recurred after treatment with another medication.

The anticancer medication contains the active ingredient Exemestane, which blocks the activity of aromatase, an enzyme required for the production of the female sex hormone estrogen in postmenopausal women (those who have reached menopause). This is extremely beneficial because the hormone may interfere with the growth of certain types of breast cancer cells. Women reduce the supply of estrogen to cancer cells. This stops the growth of cancer cells, which require a natural female sex hormone called estrogen to grow.

The usage methods of the Exemestane tablet

Adults and elderly patients are advised to take Exeget exactly as prescribed by their healthcare specialist. The tablet should be taken orally after a meal, preferably at the same time each day. The healthcare specialist will instruct you on how to take this anticancer medicine and for how long. The recommended dose is typically 25 mg of a tablet per day. Do not stop taking the tablet, even if you feel well, unless your healthcare provider instructs you to do so.

Precautions with Exemestane tablet

Exeget 25 mg is not suitable for use in children. Do not take Exemestane tablets if you have a history of hypersensitivity to Exemestane or any other ingredients of the medicine. If you have not already been through menopause, meaning you are still having your monthly period, then this anticancer medication is not for you. Avoid using Exemestane tablets if you are pregnant or likely to get pregnant. Talk to your healthcare specialist before taking Exeget. Before prescribing the treatment, your healthcare professional may want to take blood samples to make sure you have reached menopause.

You should inform your healthcare provider if you have any liver or kidney problems. Also, let them know if you have a history of any condition that affects your bones. Your healthcare provider may want to measure your bone density before and during Exeget therapy. This is because the medicine in this class reduces estrogen levels, which may ultimately lead to a loss of bone mineral content, potentially reducing their strength. Exemestane should not be used at the same time as hormone replacement therapy (HRT). Certain medications need to be used cautiously when using Exeget.

Inform your healthcare specialist if you are taking medicines including rifampicin (an antibiotic), Carbamazepine or phenytoin (anticonvulsants to treat epilepsy), and the herbal remedy (St. John’s Wort). If you feel dizzy, drowsy or weak while taking the medication, you should not attempt to drive or operate complex machinery.

Side effects of Exemestane tablet

Like any other medication, Exemestane Exeget 25 mg can cause side effects, although not everyone who uses it experiences them. Inflammation of the liver, hypersensitivity, and inflammation of the bile ducts within the liver may occur, ultimately leading to the yellowing of the skin. Symptoms include nausea, jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes), generally feeling unwell, right-sided abdominal pain, loss of appetite, and itching. Contact your healthcare provider immediately to seek medical advice if you suspect you are developing any of the above symptoms.

Generally, Exeget is well tolerated, and the side effects experienced in women treated with Exemestane tablets are mainly mild to moderate. Most of these side effects are related to the reduction in estrogen levels in the body (e.g., hot flushes).

Very commonly reported side effects include trouble sleeping, depression, hot flushes, dizziness, increased sweating, headache, feeling sick,  pain,  loss of appetite, hair loss, skin rash, weakness, vomiting, swollen hands and feet, abdominal pain, a reduction in the number of white blood cells, increased levels of liver enzymes, and increased levels of a blood enzyme in the bloodstream due to liver damage,   itchiness, a reduction in the number of platelets in teh bloodstream.
