Coversyl 4mg is a prescription medicine primarily used in the treatment of mild to moderate high blood pressure in adults. High blood pressure, medically termed as hypertension, is a common condition in which the force of the blood against the walls of the arteries is excessively high, increasing the risk of kidney problems, stroke, and heart attack. Coversyl reduces blood pressure and decreases the strain on the heart and blood vessels. Keeping a close eye on blood pressure supports heart health and lowers the risk of complications. Coversyl tablets are also widely used along with other medications to treat moderate heart failure. Heart failure is a life-threatening disease that occurs when the heart is unable to pump an adequate amount of blood, leading to symptoms like swelling, fatigue, and breathlessness.

Coversyl improves blood circulation and reduces heart load, leading to improved breathing, better physical activity and enhanced quality of life. It lowers the risk of heart attacks in patients with high blood pressure and those who have suffered a heart attack and have coronary artery disease (a condition that affects the coronary arteries, the main blood vessels that carry blood to the heart).

Coversyl 4 mg contains the active ingredient Perindopril, which belongs to a class of medications that act by relaxing the blood vessels so blood can flow more easily. This causes a significant reduction in blood pressure. Perindopril does not have the potential to cure the disease; rather, it helps control your blood pressure and support a healthy lifestyle. Evidence shows that Perindopril, when used alone or in combination with other antihypertensive agents, can help achieve clinically significant reductions in blood pressure after 12 weeks of regular treatment.

How to take a Perindopril tablet?

For optimal results, it should be taken exactly as prescribed. It is best to use the antihypertensive medicine about the same time every day, preferably in the morning before a meal. Coversyl 4mg is available as a tablet to be taken orally with a sufficient amount of water. Swallow this medicine with water. Do not chew it. Your healthcare specialist will decide the best dose based on your health requirements. The recommended dose of this drug for adults is 4 mg daily. This medicine can be given along with meals. You may be prescribed Coversyl alone or in combination with other medications effective for treating high blood pressure. It is important to continue taking the medicine regularly as prescribed, even if you feel well or have no symptoms. Most people with high blood pressure do not feel it, but stopping the treatment earlier than the prescribed period could make your condition worse. The dose should be adjusted as per the patient's response to the tablet, but only under medical supervision. Consult your physician after 3 to 4 weeks.

Things to remember when taking the Perindopril tablet

Do not take the Coversyl tablet if you are allergic to Perindopril or any other ingredients of the medicine. You should not take this antihypertensive agent if you have been diagnosed with hereditary angioedema (an increased risk of developing an allergic reaction that is transferred through family). You should not take a perindopril formulation if you are taking a medicine for heart failure containing valsartan/sacubitril. Concomitant use increases the risk of a serious allergic reaction. It is recommended to wait for at least 36 hours after taking your last dose of valsartan/sacubitril before taking Coversyl. Avoid taking Perindopril if you have diabetes mellitus, kidney disease, or are already taking antihypertensive agents that contain aliskiren. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should consult their healthcare professional before taking this medication. You may be asked to check your kidney function, potassium levels and blood pressure on a regular basis. Moreover, if you are on dialysis, undergoing blood filtration, or depending on the treatment you are receiving, Coversyl may not be suitable for you.

This high blood pressure medicine is not appropriate for you if you develop narrowing of the blood vessels to one or both kidneys. The condition is medically termed renal artery stenosis. Before you engage in any task which requires special attention, wait until you know how you respond to Coversyl 4mg. Light-headedness, dizziness, or fainting may occur after the first dose and when the dose is increased. Making lifestyle modifications (such as eating a balanced diet, engaging in regular exercise, quitting smoking, and limiting alcohol consumption) will also help you lower your blood pressure. Moreover, follow your healthcare provider's recommendations for limiting salt intake.
