Cetil 250 mg is an antibiotic drug prescribed to treat bacterial infection in your body. It contains the active ingredient cefuroxime, which is effective against a wide range of microorganisms. The medicine is known as a cephalosporin antibiotic, which works by stopping the growth of bacteria. Your doctor may prescribe the cephalosporin antibiotic for the following infections:
- Otitis media (ear infection)
- Acute bacterial exacerbations of chronic bronchitis
- Uncomplicated skin and skin structure infections
- Urinary tract infections
- Early Lyme disease
Cetil is not recommended for the treatment of viral infections such as the common cold and flu. Using any antibiotic, including Cefuroxime, can cause it not to work for infections when not needed.
The correct dose of Cetil will be decided by your doctor and depends on various factors, including the severity of infections, whether you are taking any other antibiotic, your age, weight, and how well your kidneys are working. You may be asked to take the tablet twice daily (every 12 hours) or as directed by your doctor. Take medicine with food to increase absorption and reduce stomach upset. Dosage is usually based on the medical condition of the patient. Swallow the tablet with a glass of water. Do not chew or crush the pill because it has a strong bitter taste. For the best effect, take medications exactly as prescribed by your doctor.
You must not take Cetil 250 mg if you are allergic to any cephalosporin antibiotics or you have had a severe allergic reaction to any other type of antibiotic known as penicillins, carbapenems, and monobactams. You must look out for certain symptoms such as allergic reactions, skin rashes, fungal infections, and gastrointestinal disorders while receiving Cefuroxime. Like all medicines, Cetil 250 mg can cause side effects, although not everybody experiences them. A small number of people taking Cefuroxime get an allergic reaction or potentially serious skin reaction. Symptoms of an allergic reaction (itchy rash, swelling of face/mouth/tongue) causing difficulty in breathing, skin rash, and peeling skin. Other symptoms you need to be aware of while taking Cetil tablets includes severe diarrhea, and fungal infections. Continue to take the medication until the full prescribed amount is over. Stopping the medication may cause the bacteria to continue to grow, resulting in the relapse of the infection.
